I am looking for my husbands family members.
Albert Loveridge was his grandfather, he was given a date of birth as 1 January 1900 by a court to enable them to establish when he would be due to draw pension, is what we have been told.
He married Ethel Mary Ellingford-Baxter on 25 December 1924,at St Pauls Church Deptford, Albert marriage cert has his age as 22. Named on the cert is Alberts father, Thomas Loveridge and Annie Clara Banks is a witness.
The address for both bride and groom are given as Hales Street, Deptford. Although we do believe that the couple did not live in a house until after their first child was born.
If anyone knows anything about this family i would be very pleased to hear from you, i have spent two years and only got as far as the marriage certificate (which i did in the first two weeks) since then i have come to a complete halt.
Thanks for any help you may give in advance.

1901 census
RG13/527 folio 70 page 15
52 Hale St, Deptford
Thomas Loveridge 40 street hawker own acount born Deptford
wife Elizabeth 48 street hawker own account born Croydon, Surrey
children (all born Deptford)
Thomas 18 street hawker own account
Henry 4
Edith 8
Was Albert another son of Thomas & Elizabeth? Elizabeth was already 48 :-\
Or
did the younger Thomas marry and have Albert?
In either case he would be younger than the court decided :-\
-
It says that Henry, aged 4, is married. :o

Hello Bearkat
That was sooo quick, how on earth did you find that! I will have a look at the 1901 census again, i have spent so much time looking up the name Loveridge, i was just about to give up - a new lease of life!
We were under the impression that this was a traveling family that only settled down into a house in the 30's.
I will have to look at my family tree to see where these people fit in but it seems like too much of a coincidence that there is another Loveridge on Hales Street Deptford.
I have tried every combination of Loveridge on census, marriage, birth, death certs. I think i can remember looking up a house i used to live in in Kent one time, maybe that is the route i should have taken and checked out the neighbours on Hales Street.
Thanks again, i do hope that these are "my" people.
:D :D :D :D

Hi,
Another Loveridge family living at 50 Hales Street same census, page before , next to a family named Banks (no Annie though).

Hi Cathy
Don't want to sound like Victor Meldrew here but - I don't believe it! They are coming out of the woodwork. Always thought those celeb-type people on Who do you think you are, were a bit spoiled someone else doing all the exciting work for them, just to show up and be shown their family! Well, i will have to rethink that one now.
Can't thank you enough, dont know what i am doing wrong with my research. I thought i was so organised.
;)
PS I would imagine you have found at least another household by the time i post this back to you.

Looks as if Benjamin BANKS married Mary Ann LOVERIDGE Jun quarter of 1897 at St Saviour, Southwark.
In 1901 they have a son called Albert aged 10months.
Could this be your Albert. ???
-
Thanks Bearkat
Will look at that tomorrow as well, it is quite late here, we are in the middle east, so will be going offline any minute now, but can't wait to get up in the morning and put all this names, dates, references into my family tree. That is, of course, once i have checked them all out.
The internet is a bit slow here, but i never realised just how slow; what takes months in the middle east takes a couple of hours out in the real world.
I shall let you know if these people fit into my tree, once I have a few things in place, i can ask my mother in law if she knows anything about it. She doesnt use the internet so its a little difficult from here.

The 1911 cesus will useful for solving this one.

Hello again
I have had a look on the 1901 Census online at the address Hale Street Deptford, and there are loads of Loveridges there, so i am now puzzled as to why we have been told they were travelling people. Still checking all the details, viewing births/marriages/deaths on ancestry.co.uk. Will get back and let you know if i am successful with anything.
Thanks again, cath151 and bearkat
-
Loveridges are travelling people on the whole, maybe this branch settled a bit earlier than you expected. The fact that Thomas was a Hawker also points to possibly travellers.
You need to find several censuses to work out when they stopped travelling.

Thanks for all the help, you have made my search a little easier and i have now found one or two people (i think) that will need to be confirmed by others outside the family. I have got a new enthusiasm for the tree.
Thank you all so much, i wil be back, I am sure.........

Hi Littleacorns,
I'm doing my family tree. Having seen your posting re Albert Loverage 1900 - 1988 I am wondering if you have found out more since your posting.
I have found in my tree a second cousin to my mother, Sarah Redworth, A Bertie Loverage age 4 of Deptford, in the 1891 Census. His parents were Thomas Loverage 26 of Shepherdsbush and Annie Boswell 26 of Shepherdsbush. Do you know if there is any connection to your line of Loverage's?

Did you ever look them up on the 1911 as suggested by Bearkat?
http://www.1911census.co.uk/
It's pay per view but you can have a good old poke about with names for free before comitting to spending any money!

Yes I subscribed for six months, I have until end of April.
Found lots of my other names on there, but as usual an Albert Loveridge that would fit in with the year of birth isnt there.
I can find Thomas Loveridges that may fit the bill but no Albert that would fit. Without knowing if Albert had any brothers or sisters it may be impossible to pin him down to a particular Thomas.
-
Hi,
Thx for the tip Littleacornz.
Von,
My great grandfather was Adolphus Loveridge. He was born about 1860. He married Sophia Boswell. Thomas Loveridge was my great uncle. They lived in Hale Street, Deptford. They were Romanies who came off the road in the 1890's.
I'm hoping your going to be able to help me out, my GGM Lived with Adolphus and Sophia and we believe that she was either his sister or poss a neice??
Her name was Mary Ann Loveridge she married Benjamin Banks and lived in several addresses in hale st.
Any info you could offer with regards to this family would be invaluable to us as we have hit a brickwall in our findings.
Regards
JoC

1911 there is a Thomas b1885 with his wife Sussa? and son John age 7 living at 13 Hale Street
Don't suppose, John is Albert?
what occupation does it give for father Thomas on Alberts marriage cert?
I know most of the Thomas's I found were either Hawkers or labourers but at least it would take some of them out the equation
-
He is a hawker like so many other Loveridges
-
Hi Vons,

Hello Jo
Last time we emailed I was just about to go to UK and thought I would see Rita, who I suspect could be related to your GGM.
We didnt manage to see Rita last September, but I have printed off your last post and will post it on to her.
Do you have a picture of Mary Ann Loveridge/Banks.
I think I may have said that I have a black edged card that Rita gave me, it gives the date of death for Henry Loveridge as 26 Jan 1948 he was 57 years old and was cremated at Honor Oak
Also another black edged card for Thomas Loveridge who died March 10 1954 aged 69 years. Interred at Grove Park Cemetry grave no 378 Plot K.
I have emailed the cemetry this morning to see if they can tell me if there is anyone else in the same plot as Thomas. Perhaps I should have what the inscription on the headstone was?

Ihave found the marriage banns of Emily Mary Ann Loveridge
She married Alfred Edward Hurst 28 September 1912
Her father is Adolphus (hawker)
Emily lived at 68 and Alfred at 70 Watergate St.
Their witness were George ?? Lynham and Ann Amelia Lynham
On the 1901 census George Lynham is a servant at 51 Hales Street, also living there are
Adolphus, Sophia, John, Emily and Norah Loveridge
Dont know if you had this information about Emily's full name
-
Hi,
Thanks for yr reply, yes I've got a couple of pics and my printer is now working so I'll be able to scan them and email them over to you.
As I said in my email popped to Grove park cem, sadly if there ever was a headstone there doesn't seem to be one now.
I'll have to check my records re Emily she would be my Mary Anns cousin.
-
Just wanted to say that Emily Loveridge was my Great Aunt. My grandmother was Norah Loveridge.

This was the reply from Shirley regarding Thomas Loveridge who is buried at Grove Parks.
I am based at Hither Green Crematorium and we keep the burial records here, but all it will show is the name, age and date of death of Thomas and the plot where he was buried. As it was a public grave no records are kept of memorials etc. Colin, who is the supervisor at Grove Park Cemetery is on leave this week, but I will send him a copy of this email and ask him to see if he can locate the grave space and if he can whether or not there is a memorial buried under the grass. The crematorium phone number for burial information is 0208 314 9635.
I wil let you know if there is any progress,

Hello All,
I am still looking for info on Mary Ann Sibthorpe Nee Loveridge formerly Banks.
I cannot find a record of her birth, so I am unable to trace the line back further.
I know she was born 19 April I believe the year was 1875 (but we can't confirm that)
she died 15 Feb 1976 in Deptford.
she married Benjamin Banks 1897
she married William Sibthorpe on 24 Dec 1918
We know her fathers name was Thomas Loveridge and believe her mother was Elizabeth ??
Any info would be gratefully rec'd. The reason I have posted this on Albert's post is I believe he is related to my Mary Ann.
