I am trying to gather any information about my nan's mum. From my nan's memory she was a part of Bertram's circus and this would have been after 1931 as my nan was born then. Her name on the birth certificate I have for her is Annie Lizzie Peers but on my nan's brother's birth certificate it is Amy Peers. My nan also has a bit of information that was passed to her that she married a man with the surname Taylor.
Annie LIzzie was born in Doncaster, Yorkshire in 1906. Her mum was Lavinia (although this spelling is listed many different times as being different, from Linvine to Lovinia etc etc) and her father was Frederick Charles Peers. She had a sister called Violet May Peers and a brother called George Peers.
Any information I desperately need and any advice - I seem to have been searching for ages. I can't find out when she died or if she married as I don't know the year but also the place as Betram's was a travelling circus and so the location could have been anywhere!
Any advice greatfully received,
Gemma ::)

Have u tried looking them up with surname variants?
Peers/Pears/Pearse/Pearce/Pierce etc?

Yes I have and haven't turned anything up. I've even trawled through all of the death indexes one by one to try and locate a Lavinia Peers in them and can't find any record of her death.

Thank you so so much - I'm going to send for the marriage certificate to see whether it is the same one. I've spent absolutely ages trying to find a trace of her and came up with nothing so it's worth a shot.
Thank you once again and I'll let you know what I find out!

I've just got the marriage certificate through and it is the correct one. Amy Peers married Frederick Joseph Peers on 2 Aug 1941. His occupation stated he was a gunner with the royal artillery and his number but also had next to this in brackets that he was a circus tent man! I'm so chuffed. Now I'm jsut trying to find out when she died - I've searched through all of the BMD and got some possibilities so will start to send off for death certificates of possibles.
Thanks for the advice - never would have got that if you didn't post.
Thank you so much!

Glad it came up trumps. If I see a likely death certificate I will let you know.

Hi Gemma
From the marriage certificate do you have an approx year of birth for Amy? It may help in finding her death.
-
On the census she is Amy Peers but BMD and birth certificate she was Emma Peers. She was born 19 Aug 1908 in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Apparently my mum recalls my nan saying something about her not being a performer and she eventually married Frederick who put up the tents. Have no idea where to go next!!! My mum is 90% sure it was Bertram's circus and apparently my nan went to Torquay to meet her sometime between 1950-1960.
Thanks so much for your help.

Hi Gemma
See you are still searching!!! I still haven't found a death where the birth is 19/08/1908.
There is a Amy Taylor born 23/09/1908
Death Registration 1974 : Sheffield; Volume: 3; Page: 1226
We know she married Frederick Joseph in 1941 - do you have a death for him?....This may give a clue as to where they were living. If not how old is he on the marriage cert as this may help to track it down although there are a lot of deaths with this name!!
Is it possible Frederick died and Amy remarried???

Also from the marriage cert what is Frederick father's name? Have you managed to find his family on the 1911 census?

Hi,im not sure if you may have already done this but I've not been on this site for a while due to other commitments anyway, I was just going through some old post when I saw yours, just out of interest have you googled the Bertram circus?it shows some info which might give you a little insight, also there is a forum which mentions it.There is also a book Bertram Mills - The Circus That Travelled by Train: A Pictorial Celebration of 'The Quality Show' (Hardcover)by David Jamieson (Author)
hope this shows you some info or enjoyment to read if you have not already found it.
