Title: newbie needing help
Post by: franpow on Wednesday 14 April 04 23:18 BST (UK)
::) Hi everyone.I have stood away reading your posts with interest. I like the way you are all so friendly and helpful to each other. Which helped me to make my mind up and have a go and ask if any wise owls out there could assist me.?

My G.Father, William Hollis B.1878 (supposidly) in Matlock Derby .Died in Wrexham 4th March 1935. Son To Sarah Hollis and William Hollis. William also has a brother "Bob" no date of birth or death. All I know is he was rumoured to have emigrated to Australia after the 1ww.
I will move onto the Australia site to find Bob Hollis. I hope.

My question is, does anyone have Sarah Hollis's maiden name?
What was the date of her 1st husbands death?and where?
It was rumoured that she divoiced her 2nd husband I believe his name was Starky? There was also a Nottingham connection to these two.
Thank you for any help you can offer. I do understand how complicated it is.

How do you know he was born at Matlock?
I don't seem to find him in either the 1881 or 1901 census with this birth place, do you have his family in either of those?

I was just dropping by and spotted your kind responses, regarding Grand-Parents, and where they proportedly were brought up. I was informed by my dad, it was Derby, Matlock in fact the family all stated same.

Which makes my next suggestion just as difficult. Grand-Mother Sarah Hollis Married Twice according to family chit chat. Mr. Sarah 2 was apparently something to do with the police force  in Nottingham. His surname sounded like  Basket or very similar.  The marriage failed due to devorce.
Thank you all so much you have been very helpful, and I feel privlged to be in such a caring group. I'm tickled pink that you have helped me.

Hi there,

I've run a couple of searches on the 1901 census for hollis surname.  I have collected the data & sorted it into family groups.  I can send it to you via email if you would like it.  There is quite a lot.  Do you use Excel?

If so, let me have your email address and I will send it to you as an attachment.

I'm new to this site myself and don't know how to insert attachments on it yet.

Regards,

Cheryl

Hi there,

I've sent it to you twice now as I didn't realize that I had to put spirit help in the subject box.  I'm sorry about that.  Anyway, you should receive one of the messages with the attachment.

If both end up being rejected let me know and we will try again ok!

Regards,

Cheryl  ;D
