Hi there
I hope someone can help me as I've run out of ideas. I'm looking for Grandma CAMPBELL - names unknown.
Grandma married William Albert Edward Lorne CAMPBELL about 1890-1900
Grandma is the mother of Colin Lorne CAMPBELL-Presbyterian, born 1903 at Karangahake, who married Rona Isobel ENSOR born 1909 at Thames (William Percival/Moses/Samuel/John).
Grandma's other children are Gladys, Lillian, Amy, Alec, Ruth and Ben (adopted).
I have found a William A E Lorne CAMPBELL buried 1938 Tararua Cemetery (native of Thames) which may be the right husband, ie Grandad.
Also Elizabeth AMELIA CAMPBELL buried 1917 (which maybe Grandma as she died young ) with another Amelia who may be Grandma's mother-in-law ie Great Grandma.
I'm sorry I don't have more to go on.
Thanks for your time

Hi Bren
Thanks HEAPS for that marriage info. There's no one left alive to ask.
So it looks like that is the correct William CAMPBELL (1875ish-1838) buried a Tararua. Let the games commence...
Thanks again

Hi Jan
FYI, that Cemetery is Tararu in Thames.
Tararua is a district further South...
Looks like there were at least 2 CAMPBELL families in that area.
This might be one of theirs too.....
Year of Death 1910
Surname CAMPBELL
Given Names Ellen Amelia
Age 7 mths
Location Tararu Cemetery Thames

Hi Bren
You are absolutely correct. I just got a bit carried away with typing lots of aaaas.
Wee Emily Amelia sound a likely candidate, thank you.
I noticed an "early" Campbell family in that area but can't connect to it as yet. I would assume ours were miners given the Karanghake connection. Does that seem reasonable?
Cheers

Hi
If you look at Kae's miners sites
http://www.kaelewis.com/goldminers/gold-searchpage.htm
You will see lots of your names, mining Thames
Also you can check out some street addresses/occupations at my Directories page
1906 there is a WM Campbell living at Tararu
There are lots of WELLS in the directories, you would do well to get some certificates to confirm her parents.
If they married in Thames an excellent place to look is the HILLS index
for newspaper reports of that time
http://www.thameslibrary.co.nz/genealogy.htm scroll down and its on Thames Library list. Also available Auckland Library, NZSG library, or library may do lookup

Althea
On the NZSG V5 index are school records, first I saw was for COlin at TARARU school 1907 more info from Hauraki Indexing Group. There contact is on the TREASURY link (??I think) or NZSG members can ask research team for lookups

Hi there - Elizabeth Amelia Campbell ( Wells ) was my great great Grandparents daughter, she died in 1917 the same year that both her parents died. Her brother Thomas was my great grandfather !!!
I am going to Thames next week to do some more research on the Wells family and the 6 daughters and 3 sons , I already know heaps about Frederick Augusta Churcher Wells and his wife Margaret who were Elizabeths parents.
Please contact me if you want more of my information.
Cheers

Hi Althea, Thank you for your rapid reply !! :-*
Yes I have been to The Treasury in Thames once before. I found they had very little info on Elizabeth's parents and family but that was 2 years ago . I am preparing a pioneer register for my great great grandparents -Frederick and Margaret Wells who died the same year as Elizabeth. My Great grand father Thomas was I believe their oldest child born in Onehunga in Auckland 1866.
So I am trying to confirm the names and dates of all the other children -I only recently discovered that there were 6 girls and 3 boys. Any information in this direction would be great.
From past papers I have discovered a lot about the family and this trip we are going to try to get up to Tararu Cemetery ( the road up was closed when we last tried ) and I want to discover the site of the Butcher shop and house they all lived in on old Tararu Road .
I myself lived in Thames for 5 years back in the 1980s but wasn't interested in genealogy then !!
I have several family items from the old Wells family home -an old wash jug and some china and a riding crop !!
Can I ask where you fit into the family tree and do you live in Thames ??
Cheers

I'm just a Thames research fanatic
Did you leave a picture of the butcher's shop last time you went??
Just I remember the co-ordinator at the Treasury saying that a picture had been donated?? plus a reseracher calling..it may have been you.
I will post back about the current status of the tararu cemetery access
You will find the names of Fred's children in the school records..paper copies available and summary on CD
they also show any movement around the town, birthdates etc
I have put a page on the butcher shop in the THAMES BUSINESS folder..so welcome descendants add ing any information that they have
Bye
Althea
Electoral rolls, street Directories, Burgess Roll (shows property ownership) - will all tell you abut family
I have indexes of alot of info and at The Treasury you will find the paper copies with more info in most cases
http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~althea/index.html
The Treasury old IMAGES folders are great with magnifying glass for finding old shops and houses

Update:
Tararu cemetery access okay via steps
Lawns mowed this past wednesday and the Wells graves easily locatable
Good luck

Hi Althea -guess what no luck !! The steps up to the cemetery are very narrow, very steep and with all the wet weather impossible for me to go up without huge risk !!! So disappointing -I can't imagine how they would get a lawn mower up !!
Not to worry !!
Tomorrow I go and start more research at the treasury in Thames.
I haven't been able to find the names of 3-4 of Frederick and Margaret's children so that's my next mission!!!
Thanks for your help !!!

Hi Marshall,
Hi I am Darell Anderson and my mother was a Wells . Her grandfather was Thomas Wells b.1866 and was Frederick Augustus Churcher Wells oldest son.
I have had a lot of help from this site and also recently from an advert I placed in the NZSG magazine . The reply I had was from a descent of one of FACWells daughters and he has given me his completed family history of the whole family right back to the 1600 !!!
I had done the hard yards too by tracing back and had almost solved all the questions I had about the family regards names and dates and when they first came to NZ Etc -I enjoy building up the stories.
I feel I want to still expand to be able to gain as much info as possible and to get copies of family photos etc.
Now how I am best to help you -perhaps I need to give you Grants direct email so that you can approach him and I am sure he will send you all he has on the family. Grant is a descent of Rosina one of the 6 daughters and his family history is amazing.
I have some photos and some marriage certificates I could send you -I have Fred and Margaret's marriage and death. I also have photos of them !!!
It will be good to hear from you !!
Cheers
Darell
