Can anybody please help me find a FREDERICK WEBSTER MERRISON born about 1868 in Norfolk. He may be married to an EMMELINE born about 1869 in Northrepps.
-
Hi Joan
I can't see them in 1891 at the moment, but there is a Frederick W Merrison b. 1864 Brandon, on board HMS Terror in Bermuda in 1901; he is a colour sergeant in the RMLI
He says married - but I can't see an Emmeline just now
Might this be him?
-
Hi Mum44,
Yes, its very possible that its him, I found a marriage for an EMMELINE FOX to a FREDERICK WEBSTER MERRISON and I was trying to verify that was the correct Emmeline that I am researching. Looks like I might have to wait till 1911 for that one. Thanks so much for looking for me. Regards, Joan

Hi Joan :)
There is an Emmelina Fox born 1870 Northrepps on the 1881 census with her parents, George and Maria
An Emmelina Fox born 1870 Northrepps, unmarried, appears on the 1891 census
and the marriage you found took place in 1887, I think ???
Just saw the above posting ???
2 Emmelina Fox's ;D ;D

Well, the one Sue found, with a daughter born in Walmer, would fit with a husband in the RMLI, who were based at Chatham. And if he were away at sea, her living with her parents would also be usual.
But this one seems too old?
-
I can't link the married Emmelina to her parents Henry and Dinah on previous census at the moment.
They are on the 1881 but she isn't with them
Tricia
-
Right
Emmelina born 1861 is with parents Henry and Dinah on the 1871 so I think Joan has picked up the wrong Emmelina and she isn't the one born 1869 Northrepps

Ah well, Tricia - if anyone else is researching that Emmeline Fox - her husband was in Bermuda in 1901 ;D
Joan still needs a husband for her Emmaline ;D :-\
-
But we need Joan to tell us which Elizabeth Fox really is her Elizabeth Fox ;D ;D
The choice is hers ;D ;D
Tricia
-
Oh - I thought hers was the Northrepps one :( :-\
-
I think it is a bit confusing ;)
I was trying to verify that was the correct Emmeline that I am researching.
but then again. I am easily confused ;D
There isn't an Emmelina born Northrepps on the 1901 that I can see either with a Fox surname or without and I don't know enough about Norfolk to link her with any married Emmelina's on the 1901
Perhaps both Emmelina's belong to Joan
Have you ever started digging a hole for yourself and wish you hadn't started in the first place ;D ;D ::) ::)
Time for a gin!!!

That's where I came unstuck - looking for Emmeline b, Northrepps and failing :-\
I'll join you if I may - make mine a double ;D :o :o

The only other marriages I can see within a 20 year period is for Emmaline Fox in 1905 in Hackney, London , and then one in Kent in 1909 :(
-
Pity the names of the possible spouses don't match with any of Joans 'names' - then I think champagne would be in order and not gin ;D
And the trouble with FreeBMD is ..............................

I think we'll just have to wait for Joan to come back and give her views :D

Hi Mum44 & Tricia,
Loved the banter between you two. Thank you both for trying to help.
The EMMELINE I am trying to find are with her parents in 1881 at Frogs Hall, Northrepps, Norfolk. Her parents are George Abraham Fox and his wife Maria.
They are in Sidestrand in 1891 but she was not with them. I did notice that there were a couple of Emmelines born within a few years of each other so I was trying to verify which was my Emmeline and if indeed it was a Merrison that she married. I expect both Emmelines belong to my family but have'nt come across the other one yet in my research. I'll see if I can find all my records (not very good at filing) and make sure I've entered everything correctly. Thanks again for all your help.
Regards, Joan

Good morning Joan
Can we assume that your Emmelina is the one on the 1891 with her Aunt?
That safely excludes her from marrying the Merrison chap
Tricia :)
-
Hi Tricia,
Yes, I think that's definately the one, her mother was a GRAY and one of her relatives was married to a FARROW, although I haven't come across Hannah yet, but its early days.
Thanks so much Tricia.

I have details on the Fox, Howard, Ainger and Edge families for Gt. Ryburgh, North Creake and Burnham Deepdale going back to 1732. Does anyone have any photos of these villages in 19c?
-
Hello,
My Great Great Grandfather is Frederick Merrison, he was in the Royal Navy and served in Bermuda, and was born in Norfolk area.
I think you guys are mentioning him here. Is this chat still active?
-
Hi Tomonkey,
Do you know if Frederick was in any way related to the FOX or Gray families in Norfolk?
Regards, Joan
-
Hello. Yes Frederick's wife is Emmeline Fox. They have the same marriage folio number to prove it. So Emmeline is my great great grandmother. I have pictures of them that I can share. Are you on ancestry? Do you have any pictures or anything?
I am quite excited as I have found records for Frederick being convicted of theft at the age of 12, joining the navy at 15, and from family stories he was a very stern honest man so I am wondering if my grandad knew his grand father had a criminal record.
Tom.

Hi Tomonkey,
This is great, Emmeline would be a cousin to me through George Abraham Fox. My Great Grandfather X 6 was Edward Fox, don't have any dates on him yet.
I don't have any photo's of any of them so would be really grateful if you could send some over, I am so interested in what they looked like and their stories.
If you need any information that I can supply I will gladly share.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Regards, Joan
