HI Cory
Sorry to come so late to your posts, but I am also researching the family of Thomas & Elizabeth Roberts, specifically for my ancestor, George Roberts, younger brother of William
Like his parents, George, who was born around 1852 misses at least two census and does not appear on any census until 1881. The link to his brother William is through George's oldest daughter, Selina, who is 6 on the 1881 census. However, her birth certificate shows her parents were actually William and Sarah, and was a twin to another daughter, Sophia, who died
Why Selina was handed over to her uncle and aunt we can only speculate - maybe Sarah was ill, maybe George's wife, also named Selina, had just lost a baby, who knows, but the link between William and George looks pretty concrete
George and Selina were married in 1872 in Wolverhampton. Thomas is shown as George's father - occupation Slater
George & Selina did go on to have several children, the first of which was not born until 1879, 7 years after their marriage which hints at a medical problem
I have a fairly complete record of the census records of Thomas and Elizabeth's family (where they appear) 1841-1911 which I will be glad to send to you
Regards
Phil

Hi Phil,
So is this the same William Roberts born in 1836? He ended up marrying a Sarah Fletcher around 1859. My entire tree is on www.GenesReunited.com. I can't seem to find a George anywhere which makes me think its a different family, but who knows. William & Sarah end up having a series of children one in particular named Walter (1869) who is my ancestor.
Talk Soon,
Cory

Hi Cory
Whilst there is no absolute proof that William & George were brothers, the evidence is pretty convincing
There is no doubt at all that George's "daughter" Selina is the child of William & Sarah Roberts, as proved by the attached birth certificate
It is just possible that the surname Roberts of both families is a coincidence, but consider both William & George have a father named Thomas, both lived in Wolverhampton, the child has the same not very common name Selina, the same as George's wife
Taking all this evidence, it seems highly likely that William and George are brothers
Best Regards
Phil
PS I can't seem to be able to make the attachment

Hi Cory
Will do
I don't know what happened to Selina after 1891. Presumably she married, but I have not found any record of this in Wolverhampton
In 1891, Selina seems to be a servant in a pub, though her age is said to be 17, not 16 as it should be. However, she may have lied about her age to get the job!
Best Regards
