Title: Fife death lookup pre 1855 please
Post by: margaret1 on Monday 13 October 08 03:28 BST (UK)
Hello,  :)

I am trying to find the death dates for John Archibald bap 4 Jan 1730 Scoonie Fife married to Elspeth Cairns born c1730 Wemyss Fife. John and Elspeth married 24 Nov 1752 in Scoonie Fife and their children Margaret b 27 Jan 1754, Andrew b 19 Mar 1757, Archibald b 1 April 1759 and Thomas b 11 Dec 1766 were all born in Scoonie. John and Elspeth probably died in Scoonie.

John's parents were Andrew Archibald bap 11 Jul 1680 Kilconquhar Fife, and Janet Robertson bap 18 Jul 1686 Largo Fife.

Andrew's parents were Alexander Archibald born c1654 Kilconquhar and Christian Brown born 28 April 1658 Kilconquhar. Janet's parents were James Robertson and Margaret Duncan both from Largo Fife.

Andrew Archibald and Janet Robertson were married 18 Aug 1710 in Largo and had 10 children - the first five were born in Largo and the last five were born in Scoonie, so they probably died in Scoonie Fife.

It would be wonderful to find out when they died - I hope this isn't too much information.

Warm regards,

Margaret :)

not having much luck -
search Archibald / Scoonie =1 (no connection i can see)
 ""             ""           John    = 28 (no obvious links)
  "               "          Elspeth:
  Elspeth Archibald  bur 20/1/1768  Strathmiglo

search Archibald / Andrew = 5  1 might fit:
   Andrew Archibald  bur 8/10/1750 Strathmiglo

no luck other names Sorry  :-[

Gee Diddy, it's difficult to say if this is my Elspeth and Andrew  :-\. I will do some more research to see if Strathmiglo is mentioned in their travels - even though I haven't come across it as yet - you never know.

Thank you so much for taking the time to try to find them, I do appreciate it.

Warm regards,

Margaret  :)

Hi All

I'm trying to find the death date along with any other available info of James Ewen b. Sprouston, Roxburgh. He last appeared on the 1851 census aged 72 (Address: Boofies Brae, Dunfermiline Fife).

May have been known as Ewan or Ewing.

Any help greatly appreciated, many thanks
Mark

Mark -  IGI entry:

James Ewen  chr. 21/4/1782  Sprouston, Roxburgh.
father: John Ewen
Mother: Elizabeth Mather

Parent search of above gives siblings:

William Ewen  chr.20/2/1785
Elizabeth ewen  chr. 18/5/1788
both Sprouston.

what info do you have / need? may be worth starting a new thread either here or on Roxburgh.

Thanks Diddy, I'd tried to previosuly get the death date but to no avail so this is a big help.

The other information you provided corresponds with dates / names already in the "tree" and acts as a nice check.

More of a general question........was it typical for Christening dates to be delayed by 3/4 years after birth? Going off the christening and death dates this would make James 69 yrs rather than 73 yrs.

Final question.. is there any records of a death date for Catharine Ewen (James' wife - originally McVity Deans). Catharine was also in the 1851 census, aged 68ish I think.

Thanks
Mark

Mark- glad to help.

children were often christened a time after their birth - maybe with siblings although not in this case.

shouldn't worry about a few years difference in james birth date / census date. again they were not to accurate esp in early census where they tended to round things / change to be nearer to spouses age!! (may be as catherine 68 you say on 1851)

no sign of catherines death - maybe after 1855 when CD goes up to. also nothing on MI.s.

worth a look on SP i should think.
