Looking for information on Raymond Albert Morrell Barrett married to Dorothy Joyce Spencer - married around 1950ish Had at least three children Joyce, Peter and Gary
Any information would of help to see if i can resurrect this side of my wife's tree
-
Sellick,
If th edate you have given for the marriage is 1950, then there is probably little that can be done by those not family memebres.
You can order marriage certificates if you are a fammily memeber.
All births pre 1920 are availble on genealogy cd's or on various public record sites.
Marriages are available in Victoria up to 1940 on cd's, also deaths to 1980 . Both searchable at the PRO site.
https://online.justice.vic.gov.au.
A good starting point my be the death certificate of his father if he is deceased, this would give you spouse and children and possibly if known his parents names etc. and you can work back from there.
good luck

Hello there
looks like their death details from The Ryerson Index, and a conflict in the spelling of the surname
BARRETT Dorothy Joyce Mary Death notice 19FEB1978 Death late of Narwee Sydney Morning Herald 23FEB1978
(unfortunately no age shown)
BARRATT Raymond Albert Death notice 02DEC2006 Death 82 Herald Sun (Melbourne) 04DEC2006
BARRATT Raymond Albert Morel Probate notice 13DEC2006 Publication late of Northcote The Age (Melbourne) 13DEC2006
So his birth 1924c outside any of the indexs.
So a copy of the death certificate might be the only way to go unless ou know where they were born etc.

Marriages in NSW are online to 1957.
http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/Index/IndexingOrder.cgi/search?event=marriages
However I don't see a marriage - searching with both spellings of BARRETT/BARRATT

Have found lots of data and our Jenn -tropicalj found the important shipping records ....under BARRETT ::) and independently found similar info back to the 1861 census.
I have pm'd a lot of info to SellickAust as I wasn't sure whether or not I had found the correct family...but Jenn's passenger record find has me fairly convinced so will detail here...I did work backwards but have detailed in chronological order.
I have tracked the family using Vic bdm's, IGI extracted parish records only, free bdm, Ancestry for census and electoral rolls; and cemetery records. I will place the info in chronological order...

Tropicalj
Robert Albert is my wifes grandfather, Dorothy died in 2002 so the name difference would see to be a different person
But thank you for the information, it will help greatly with sorting out the mists of time
-
I know this is an old thread but I had to add my 2 cents worth. Dorothy and Raymond (Dot and Ray) were related to me - Ray was my grandmother's brother and I believe the last survivor from their family. My grandmother was Ivy Ethel. I remember meeting Ray quite a fewtimes but wouldn't say I knew him all that well - my mother did though. Ivy died in 1997 and another brother Clarence (Uncle Clarry or 'Clacker' as he was known) lived for many years in Brisbane and died perhaps in the past 10 years. I believe Hazel died at a late age but I'm not sure exactly when.
One of the brothers died in a horse & cart accident sometime around 1920 - can't recall which one but must be George if Percival's war records are correct. It had a big effect on the family, as you might imagine. My mother has a couple of medical books given as a gift to 'George', but I'm not sure if it was their father or grandfather, in 1903 when he left for the Dandenongs to follow a religious calling. George Grosvenor had a property in Olinda, which is no longer standing but has a road named after it, so perhaps it was him
The family were raised in Crockford St Port Melbourne. (Google '48 crockford st port melbourne' and on Google Maps Streetview you'll see a row of single storey Victorian homes - I'm pretty sure it's one of those as I once saw a very old photo with the family standing out the front).
That's all I have for now. Good luck...
