Hi,
Im doing a One Name Study for the surname DEXTER which is registered with the Guild of One Name Studies. I have amassed a lot of information on DEXTERs from all over the world (mostly for the 19th -20th centuries). Maybe I can help find your ancestral "missing link"? All you need to do is ask!
I look forward to hearing from you.

Do you have a John Dexter b abt 1779 in Stretton Rutland?
He died there in 1849 aged 70

Hi Forte
I dont think he was born in Stretton. There are no DEXTER births in IGI for Stretton and since his wife seems to be from Manthorpe LIN ( if I have the correct Mary) it might be reasonable to look in that direction. Again I could find no DEXTER births or marriages that would fit for Grantham in IGI. Any more clues?

Hi Ardext
Thanks for a swift response. I worked his birth year from his death in Stretton aged 70 in 1849 but I now see on a record of his marriage to Mary Roberts of Manthorpe in 1813 he gives his age as 31, therefore b abt 1782. I have a John bp in Braunston in 1782 so this could be him as on his marriage cert it says he is Widwr of Braunston in Rutland. I would really like him to be John b in Colsterworth Lincs and I could then tie him in to my family. This John has a brother William who sometimes says he is b in Stretton and sometimes in Colsterworth. I live in hopes!
