Hi
I am trying to find a possible father/ fathers for the following
I know the mother to be Grace TERRY
and wondered if the Parish Records would help me
Margaret TERRY 1851 Wensley
Thomas TERRY 1859 Wensley
Elizabeth TERRY 1861 Wensley
Any help would be great

Hi Christine
welcome to rootschat
If as you say the mother of the children is Grace Terry, looking at the 1851 and 1861 cenus sheets, Grace was'nt married, so a father might not have been registered
ricky
-
Thank you for the reply
Yes I agree Grace was not married(she did marry much later)
I did just hope that someone may have been named as the father.
I have seen such entries before where the father has acknowledged the child as his and been named.

Hi Christine,
Welcome from me too. If no-one on here has access to Wensley PRs, the North Riding Lookup Exchange may be able to help

Kind regards,

Hi Christine
The following info is in the Leyburn Bastardy Bonds records:
Nov 1861, Dec 1861 and Jan 1862
Grace Terry of Middleham and Francis Skelton of Wensley a Labourer
1864
Grace Terry of Middleham and Thomas Rumfill of Middleham a Labourer.
Hope this is of some use to you.
Happy hunting

Hi Margaret
Thank you so much for that information
Can you please tell me
does it mean that Grace TERRY had children to both these men?
Is there a way to know the childrens names?
Christine
-
Hi Christine
It certainly looks like Grace had children by both Francis and Thomas. Sorry but nothing is mentioned about the name or sex of the child. You might be aware of this but on the 1861 census Grace is living with her parents next door to Francis Skelton. I wonder if Ellen Terry is the child of Francis, what do you think? I don't know how long after the birth of a child the case came to court.
good luck
Margaret
ps I have the PR for Aysgarth and Askrigg if they are of any use to you
-
Hi again
I dont understand the Ellen you refer to
I have Thomas TERRY and Margaret TERRY
children of Grace
and somewhere I found a reference to an Elizabeth as her daughter also
Grace married a Anthony PEACOCK befire the 1871 census
Thank you
Christine
-
Hi Margaret
so sorry I see what you mean re Ellen
she is with Grace and her new husband PEACOCK in 1871
well she could be SKELTON's

Christine

Hi Margaret
would you check parents of a Mary KILBURN born 1821
Aysgarth for me please
Christine
-
Hi Christine
There wasn't a Mary Kilburn baptised in Aysgarth so I checked the Askrigg Records. Mary Kilburn baptised 28 Jan 1821 d/o George and Mary. Vicar S.L. Brougham.
I then looked for a marriage between George and Mary in both PRs but none found. However, on the LDS there is a marriage between George Kilburn and Mary Calvert in Patrick Brompton Yorkshire.
Mary Calvert was born 12 May 1795 bap 20 May 1795 and was the daughter of Marmaduke Calvert and Mary Maynell (Patrick Brompton)
George Kilburn was bap 22 Feb 1792 Bainbridge Askrigg Yorkshire and was the son of Alexander Kilburn and Elizabeth Chapman. The church was St Oswald Askrigg. On the 1841 census George and Mary are living in Bainbridge and two of their children are called Marmaduke and Alexander. This might be worth checking out don't you think?
Also there is a public tree on Ancestry who are researching the Kilburns.
Let me know what you think.
good luck
regards
Margaret
ps do you know who Mary Kilburn married?
-
Hi again Margaret
Thank you so much for all that info
That does indeed seem to be the correct lady
I will take a look on ancestry to see who is also researching that line
Yes I know who she married it was a Robert BROWN born 1812 Kirkby Stephen and died Bainbridge as did Mary.
They married 1836 Askrigg
I believe they had 5 children James 1850 being my husbands line
I really appreciate all your efforts for me
Mary and Robert are my husbands 4x great grandparents

Hello everyone,
I do apologise for butting in on this thread .. but as Ricky is already aware, I have been following it with great interest. Therefore it makes more sense for it come up on my unread replies.
My husband's 3xGt Grandfather was John Terry, baptised 1829 in Wensley. Apart from being aware of his subsequent marriage to Hannah Percival .. this is one part of our tree that still needs further research.
Kindest regards,
Pels.

Hi Pels
Not sure what info you are wanting, but I have had a look for John Terry on the Aysgarth/Askrigg PRs but he's not there. You have probably seen the one on LDS for him. He is with his parents John and Margaret on the 1841 census and it looks like he is the brother of Christine's ancestor Grace. I did find a baptismal date for Hannah though. Let me know if you haven't already got it and I will gladly post the info.
regards
Margaret

Hello again Margaret,
Thankyou so very much for taking the trouble, I really hadn't intended to hijack this with my own queries .. it was mainly because of the surname interest that I replied.
The baptism record I have for Hannah Percival is 25th. November 1836, Carperby in the Parish of Aysgarth. To be quite honest and without checking I can't remember where I found this information .. it seems such a long time ago now.
I would be grateful if you could confirm the above though .. ? :)
Also thanks for confirming the relationship between John and Grace .. it looks like my husband has found a distant relative in Christine .. ! :D :D
Very kindest regards,
Pels.

Hi Pels
Hannah Percival bap 25 November 1836 d/o James and Christian Curate John Winn St Andrew Parish Church Aysgarth.
Don't know if you have the following but here goes:
James Percival (x) married Christian Holmes (x) 20 December 1830 Banns Curate John Winn Witnesses: Henry Holmes and John Dinsdale. St Andrew PC Aysgarth. Both born in Carpeby.
Please let me know if I can help in any other way.
Happy hunting
Margaret

Hi there - I noticed a post on these forums and you mention that you are linked to Auton
I am an Auton - care to see if have a link in out tree's ?
Hopefully you will reply and we can go from there.
Thanks

My grandmother was Nellie Auton who married Richard Edward Punshon. Her father was Robert Auton 1862 - 1935 and mother Ellen Terry 1861 - 1952. Robert and Ellen had 13 children. I havr quite an extensive file on Auton's as a result of sharing data with John Auton who has spent many years researching this name.
Robert's father was another Robert and he had two wives - Sarah Jackson and Mary Jane Gregory. If this looks as though it links somewhere with your line, get in touch my email is (*)
