Hi,
I'm trying to trace the parent's names for William Palmer who was born around 1790 in Rickinghall Superior, Suffolk. He had a son called William Palmer born in 1822.
William Palmer married someone called Harriett?
Any information/help is much appreciated.
Thank you
Heidi

Thank you.

Taken from Rickinghall Superior parish register.
William s/o Robert and Margaret Palmer received into church 24 December 1786.
Sorry, but I couldn't find the baptism.

Thank you for finding that information for me Anne,
Much appreciated

I was just wondering, if something says 'received into the church' does that mean they could have been any age?
So that this William Palmer could actually have been the father of William Palmer born around 1790?
I'm just trying to tie in the Robert and Margaret.
Thanks

Hello
I've just received your message. Thank you so much for this information, I'll take a look now.
I really appreciate you letting me know this information, this is very kind of you, thank you.

Robert PALMER of Rickinghall married Margaret RICHES 8 Feb 1780, Gislingham, St Mary
so that William could have been no more than 6 when he was received into the church.
Robert Palmer (70/labourer) buried 11 Jan 1827 Rickinghall Superior
Margaret Palmer (82) buried 11 Feb 1830 Ditto
Harriet Palmer (62) buried 18 May 1858 Rickinghall Superior
possible for spouse - William PALMER of Hartismere Union House (no age quoted) buried 2 Oct 1869 (FREEBMD - SepQ 1869 William Palmer age 74) Ref: 4a/332. So it looks like he may have been born c1795.

Hello
Thanks for this information. I think the William Palmer born c1795 whose wife was Harriett Palmer buried 1858 are definitely the correct ones as he married a Harriett Norman and I do have her death as 1858. I didn't have a record of William's death so that's new info for me.
Ive also been trying to trace the parents of Harriett Norman b1801 Gislingham but unfortunately found nothing.
I will definitely look into the Robert and Margaret.
Thank you for your time and help.

" William PALMER of Hartismere Union House (no age quoted) buried 2 Oct 1869"
should have said also buried Rickinghall Superior.
Found these 2 marriages in Gislingham
John NORMAN & Elizabeth FORD 10 Mar 1762
John NORMAN & Mary WALLMAN 26 Jan 1787 (Could be son of above & poss parents of Harriet)
Unfortunately there are only 3 Norman burials recorded on the Suffolk Burial Index in Gislingham none fit either of the above couples so they may not have resided in the parish for long but on the plus side there appears to have been a couple Will & Martha NORMAN in the parish later. They buried 2 children
Nelson Norman (inf) 21 Dec 1831
John Norman (inf) 25 Jun 1833
The only marriage I can see on the Suffolk marriage Index is
William Norman & Martha Brett 4 Oct 1830 Ipswich St Margaret?
I cannot see any other Norman marriages in Gislingham either around the time that William & Harriet married (1817). So if she had any siblings they did not marry in the parish but quite obviously there were Norman's around at about the right time.
Sadly there is nothing online in the way of PRs for the parish of Gislingham.

Hello
It was lovely to receive your post this morning.
I've had a look at Willam and Harriet's children they were Willam b1822 who married Mary Ann Brock (the ancestor line I follow), John, Harriet, Mary, Peter and Elizabeth. They all seem to be Rickinghall Superior. I was hoping to see a connection in the names.
I'll see if I can find anything more on the 2 marriages and the returning couple.
Thank you for your help once again :)

If his parents were Robert & Margaret you also might reasonably expect to see the use of either of those names for his children.
Try a post on the Suffolk Look Ups board for Norman bpts in Gislingham - there are some exceedingly kind people in Suffolk who will check PRs when they are in the SRO. You never know your luck :)

ps. Check out familysearch.org for children of William Norman & Martha Brett - baptisms in Gislingham :)

Also on familysearch.org
John Norman bpt 18 Apr 1799 (born 1798) Bury St Edmunds St James son of John Norman & Mary Wallman Norman.
John son of John Norman & Mary late Wallman buried 18 Apr 1799 BSE St James (Suffolk Burial Index).
There is just one Norman death I found in Redgrave cum Botesdale transcripts (Suffolk Burial Index) none in Rickinghall.
Recorded as Edward NORMAN (Mr/age 70) buried Bury St Edmunds, St James 14 Dec 1799
Looking at the BSE ST James entries he is listed as Edmund Norman (esq/age 72) buried 14 Dec 1799.
There are masses of Norman burials in BSE ST James & St Mary's - could it be that your Norman's came from there - Gislingham is not far down the road.
