Title: Hexam Flood Victims c 1772
Post by: daisy duck on Tuesday 07 October 08 15:38 BST (UK)
Does anyone have information on the whereabouts of lists of 'flood victims' claiming compensation after the great flood of I believe 1771/2. Mt ancestor was living in the area at that time and I would like to see if there was any mention of him. thanks

Hi Daisy

Hexham Local History Society's 2005 annual journal, Hexham Historian 15, includes an article on the 1771 Flood. The journal costs £6 + p&p. I don't know whether it lists the victims, but perhaps you can contact the Society first to check. They would certainly know where you can find the information you need.

Here's a link to their website:

With best wishes
