Have you seen these on freebmd? I only picked up the Sunderland specific births because of the name of the boy in 1864. Can't see any of the names so far on the census records but I have run out of time for today.

Hi
The 1861 census Sunderland has a Frederick T Meier born about 1860 which may be one of the births listed above by Tracy, but he is the son of a Charles Meier.
I did find this possible one though way out of area

Mary Ann Wife Mar 23
Frederick son 11
Mary Ann dau 2
William son 7 months

Lila,
I've just realized that it's your family tree on Ancestry! You give a date and place for Mary Ann Downie's marriage - 10 Dec 1852, North Shields. Do you have the certificate and, if so, what was Ferdinand Meier's occupation?

Hi Lila,
When searching on the national archives site catalogue it shows that there are naturalisation papers for Ferdinand Friedrich Rudolph Meier from Prussia issued 30th January 1861.

Hi Lila,
If you look on this thread you will see that you can search the British newspapers on line for free at the moment
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,332069.0.html
I put in the surname Meier and found a few hits which may be of interest to you and I also tried searching Rudolph Meier and Friedrich Meier where I also had hits. It might be worth you having a look and printing the info found in case they fit in with your family at a later date.
These were from the Tynemouth area and of London, also of Prussia.
I also searched under William Downie from your other post and details came up of a son being born to a William Downie a Master Mariner at North Shields.
Also a daughter marrying in Edinburgh father William Downie shipowner North Shields.
regards
Cathy

I'm searching the British Newspaper Archive (which is not free, but not too expensive) and have found the marriage notice for Mary Ann Downie and Ferdinand Frederick Rudolph Meier:
Newcastle Guardian and Tyne Mercury Sat 11 Dec 1852 page 8
At North Shields, at the Baptist Chapel, on the 8th inst. by the Rev. J. D. Carrick, Ferdinand Frederick Rudolph, son of Frederick Meier, Esq., collector of customs, Stettin, to Mary Ann, eldest daughter of Mr Wm. Downie, shipowner, North Shields.
Mary Ann's birth is recorded in IGI, in the Stephenson Street Particular Baptist Church film C092111: 7 April 1830. Her father William was born on 8 February 1786 at Newbiggin according to the family bible of his parents, John Downie of Dalvanie, Glenisla (born 15 April 1750) and Mary Lisle.
If you read this, Cathy, I would be interested in any information you have on the daughter who married in Edinburgh. William and Mary Ann had seven sons and only three daughters (one another Mary Ann who presumably died before the other one was born in 1830); the remaining daughter was Isabella born 17 July 1833 (again recorded in C092111).

I just happen to have the North Shields Stephenson Street Baptist baptisms on fiche:
Mary Ann the fourth child of William Downie North Shields, Master mariner, by Mary Ann his wife who was the Daur of Alexender Cross of Newcastle upon Tyne was born in North Shields in the parish of Tynemouth in the county of Northumberland the seventh day of April in the year one thousand eight hundred and thirty. Attested by William Bramwell, surgeon and Ann Cunningham. Signed James Williamson Licensed Protestant Dissenting Minister
There are 7 total children listed to this couple in this record

That's very helpful, Janis. Could you transcribe the other six if it isn't too much trouble?
