Hi
Does anyone have any information about the Ulrich Family of Kilmarnock ?
My grandfather's name was Carl Ulrich. (1922-92)
His ancestor John Ulrich came over from Germany in 1846, settled in Kilmarnock and worked as a miner.
Cheers,
Warren

Hello Warren,
From the IGI - all 'extracted' - a Yossans Ulrick married a Jessie Dickson on 10 JUN 1864 Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland
The couple then as John and Jessie Ulrich had the following 3 children.
HENRY ULRICK Birth: 12 JUN 1864 Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland (note the spelling 'k')
ROBERT ULRICH Birth: 11 MAY 1872 Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland
ROBINA ULRICH Birth: 08 NOV 1873 Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland
Downloading one of the above 'extracts from www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk will get you back another generation on each side.
However, if you look at the IGI census records for the USA (1880), it'd appear that there were other Ulrichs born in Scotland in the 1840's
Good luck.

Hi Steve,
What does IGI stand for ?
I had a look on scotlandspeople before and thats where I got the info that John settled in Kilmarnock in 1846.
I think I remember that he eventually had about 6 children.
I left the print outs at my work I think so I'll need to check them tomorrow to see if they tally in.
From what I remember as well there was only originally 1 Ulrich family in Kilmarnocj and that was John's.
Obviously as his children grew up and started families there were more Ulrich families in Kilmarnock.
I think its quite cool though i might be related to all the Ulrichs that ever lived in, or came from Kilmarnock.
I'll let you know know when I check it out.
Cheers,
Warren

Hi
The info that I've got from ancestry.co.uk and the 1881 Scotland Census
is that John's family consisted of :-
John Ulrich Age 38 (born 1843)
Jessie Ulrich 34 (born 1848)
John Ulrich 13 (born 1868)
Robina Ulrich 7 (born 1874)
James Ulrich 5 (born 1876)
Hendry Ulrich 3 (born 1878)
It also says John was a coal miner, lived at 31 Back St, Kilmarnock, and
says under Where born: (British Subject), Germany.
I would like to know where John came from in Germany if possible and what happened to all the Ulrichs
Cheers,
Warren

Hello Warren,
Go to www.familysearch.org - it'll explain all - good up until 1875 for 'extracted' records. Shall send you a pm on how to search etc. Regards, Steve :O)
~~~~~~~~--------------------------
Just back of SP just now. A search for Ulrick/ch children all of Scotland from 1855 to 1885 brings up 4. This is 'your' family.
1876 ULRICH JAMES STORRIE M KILMARNOCK/AYR
1873 ULRICH ROBINA F KILMARNOCK/AYR
1872 ULRICH ROBERT M KILMARNOCK/AYR
1864 ULRICK HENRY M KILMARNOCKAYR
As I said on my first post you need to download the marriage entry to get back another generation - as it will give both sets of parents names on it :O) Downloading a later childs birth entry will also have the parents marriage details - which will also confirm for you that you have the correct family. Can you please update when you get back a generation. Thanks ................
Hello again Warren,
I can only find them in Scotland on the 1871 census for the first time.
Tried Ullrich/ or k and with one 'l' - so 4 variants.
For the 1871 census:
1871 ULLRICH JOHN M 28 KILMARNOCK/AYR
1871 ULLRICH JESSEY F 24 KILMARNOCK/AYR
1871 ULLRICH JOHN M 3 KILMARNOCK/AYR
1871 ULLRICH ANDREW M 0 KILMARNOCK/AYR
and in Perth with one 'l' is
1871 ULRICH JOHN M 15 CAPUTH/PERTH
There are the only ones in Scotland on the '71 census.
Regards, Steve :O)
And births from SP - all of Scotland 1855 to 1885
