Title: Jacob Bozagie
Post by: kooky on Sunday 05 October 08 17:22 BST (UK)
Jacob was my potential son in law's gt gr father. He was Greek and a sailor. He married Margaret Fenwick in Tynemouth in 1917. I was wondering if anyone knows any more about this family.
I have found several children some of whom are living. I am more interested in Jacob and his wife.
She went to USA in 1949. There is a death for Jacob in Family Search USA death index.
There are lots of mentions of Jacob in shipping lists. Unfortunately I have not got the necessary sub. to look at them properly!
I am off on holiday tomorrow and will probably not have access to a computer for a week or so.
I'll leave it with you! ;D

Hi Kooky,
There isn't much to add to your information that I can find. Jacob was born 13 Jan 1892 as you probably know from the Social Security Death information - if indeed that is him but there aren't many Jacob Bozagie's around. He was ships crew and I will pm you with the odd bits and pieces which may fill out your picture of him.

 Welcome to Rootschat!
As I explained at the beginning of this thread, my daughter's partner is Jacob's great grandson. His mother has asked me to find out more about her grandparents.
There is nothing untoward going on! My research is going to be a Christmas present for the family.

Hi everyone, just add some more to the mixture. Jacob Snr was my  Gr Gr Grandfather. I am a decendant of Willam, which is Jacob Snr second son. The name Bozagie btw is kinda made up by Jacob Snr. On his marriage certificate to Margaret it is also written down as BOGIATZIS. This may help in your research. It is also on one of his passports. I don't have this, Violet does, Jacob Snr youngest. Also on the marriage certificate his father is written down as Allenandras Bogiazis, noted as deceased, profession marget Gardner. marriage was April 13th 1917.

I would be very interested if you find any more on the Bozagie side.

Well I can tell you her mother was Sarah Raine, she married a George Fenwick, they had 12 children together. Not all of them lived. Supposedly she later went on to remarry and had a further 8.

I would be very interested in anything you find. Maybe I could ask around the family.

Kym, in the 1901 census Sarah is a widow aged 48, with 7 children. I think I have found a death for George in 1901, not checked yet! I very much that Sarah could have had another 8 children at her age. Do you happen to know who her 2nd husband was?

Hi Kooky,
No sorry, notes I have don't mention the name of the second husband & went on to have further 8 children, although this could be step children. By the dates you've found I would have said so.

Does it say on the census you found where they were living at the time??

Kym,  in the 1901 census the family were living at 27, North Terrace, North Road, Preston, Tynemouth. Sarah was a widow age 48, there were 7 children age between 4 and 18.

Hi Kooky,
Thank you very much for the address. I have read back through the thread and noticed you are planning this for xmas present. I have a couple very old photos that might be of interest. One particularly I am interesteresting in finding out who is in the photo. We believe it is Maragaret Fenwick with two of her children, who we think is Jacob Jnr and one of his sisters, either Marguerit or Rose. Please email me on     if you are interested.

Through that US Social Security number from the death index you can order a copy of the application for the Social Security number.  It should have both parents names, including mother with maiden name.  It is a little costly-didn't used to be-- but now it is $28.00 USD.

Glad you are getting on with the Bozagie tree. :)
I only knew about his marriage to Margaret Fenwick and his death in New York.
If you have anything on his parents or place of birth I would be very interested, as would his daughter, my son in law's grandma.

Hi Paul, I've just had my DNA done and it says my ancestors are Jacob Bozagie Jnr and
Patricia Lillian Hodgkisson. I'd be intrested in connecting and find out how we are related. Thanks Anna

Hi, Patricia Hodgkisson was my aunt and Jacob my uncle. Paul is my cousin. I wanted to contact Paul to tell him of my mum's passing on 31st May this year and to invite him to the funeral service. Sadly I wasn't able. Please let him know his aunt Marjorie Moffitt (nee Hodgkisson, Patsy's sister) has passed.
Many thanks, Jeanie (Jeanette Hurst (nee Moffitt)).
