Hi Jen
There is a marriage for an Ebenezer Wentzel in 1918 folio NO: 3477 to an Alice Maud Barratt. Could be related somehow?
There's also a forum for the Wentzel name http://genforum.genealogy.com/wentzel/
The only Wentzel I could find in the Wellington Cemetery is a Ronald Joesph http://www.wellington.govt.nz/services/cemeteries/search/search.php

Hi jennirosa

Lu
PS: Are you the same person who has a recent listing for this surname, on the rival (A*******y) message board - or is it someone else ???

Hello Lu and Lil,
Thank you for finding Ebenezer for me! His wife Gertrude (1st one)... would love to know what happened to the first Mrs. Wentzel? ::)
Gertrude May Bauer/Wentzel is my Great Grandfathers niece!
My Gr.grandfather came to Australia, still don't know exactly when? I thought maybe his sister's children may have come out to Australia, but no....one to NZ the other two Rudolph Franz Bauer and Charles Bauer born West Derby I cannot find after 1901 census in West Derby.
Yes that is me, Lu !
I'll get there one day!

Hi
Would seem there is an early Ebenezer??
as school records for RONALD JOSEPH b 1906 attending Mornington School Dunedin, parent Ebenezer Wentzel
Plus HARLEY b 1904 (no Guardian)
BERTHA MAY 1903 guardian Mr Wentzel
Bye
Althea
Just checking at PAPERS PAST and there are ads for a G WENTZEL back 1860's
**Update**, I see you say may have come, but the FINDMYPAST passenger lists do have the family coming to Wellington from London 1907
E, Male b 1868
G, Female b 1876
B, Female b 1903
H, Male b 1905
R, male, b 1906
So that confirms same family and that they were settled Dunedin. for a time anyway

and there are 5-6 Wentzels on the link (findmypast) in first reply, to Australia, as well as the ones coming to NZ.

I'm a few years late coming in on this one. But can tell you that Ebenezer WENTZEL, the schoolteacher, changed his name after the first World War, to John WILSON. His wife Alice Maud nee BARRATT was a half-sister of my husband's grandmother. Ebenezer and Maud (as she was known) had no children.
