Hi,
I am trying to find my great grandmother Florence Eliza Fisher. She was said to be French!
However she is on the 1901 census living in Fulham and is down as being born in Cambridgeshire, she is married to George Cheshire and she is 34.
I have her marriage certificate December 1892, which states she is 20, with Father George a labourer.
I have been trying to find her for approximately 8 years with no luck!
I have also looked in to different spellings of her name and have been looking at a Florence FISCHER 15 in 1881 who is a servant in Tottenham. There is also a Father George and Mother Eliza living in Phillip Street London. The ages do not match up with Florence as their daughter as they are down as 28. However I would be extremely grateful if some one could try and find them on the 1871, just to put my mind at rest that these people are not her parents. I know that the census records can sometimes have been transcribed wrong.
Thank you for reading!

Hi there,
Is she a spinster on the marriage certificate, what was her address listed as, and did she have an occupation? Who were the witnesses-were any surnamed Fisher?
-
hello...
does the occupation of George (husband) tally with occ on the 1901 census ?

Hello,
Florence is a spinster on the marriage certificate, her address is the same as her future husband George Cheshire, 3 Elysium Cottages, Fulham. She has no occupation and the witnesses were Florence Godfrey and James Driver.
Can't access the other info on Geroge's occupation at the moment - long story, but will let you know a bit later - sorry!
Thanks for your help!!

Just to let you know that I definitely have the correct family in 1901, as it's the sme address as on my Nan's birth certificate and my Father also can confirm some of the other children.

Hi there Gib,
Still looking, with no luck so far :( , but thought I'd let you know that I found a possible Florence Eliza Fisher, born c1866 Cambridge, but she was baptised 27 Jul 1866 in Doddington with parents Howard and Susannah Fisher-so wrong one !

Hi Haliared,
Yes, I came up with that one years ago, and it's definitely not her! She's a big problem! Very elusive!
I even thought that maybe she wasn't a spinster and had been married already, but it's very difficult to go anywhere with that idea!
Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated!

thanks for all the confirmation. . I have been looking too.
I looked thru quarters of births but as you say the other florence F turns up .
The french story is interesting. . . I'll have another look .

Thank you for your help!
It's all very, very puzzling! There seems no reference to her before her marriage at all! She doesn't seem to appear on any census. I thought that 1891 would give me a good clue, but not there either?

Hi Gibonee,
Any further info on your Florence Fisher? I am helping my friend, Stephanie, who is the GGrandaughter of Ada Godfrey (nee Cheshire)who was your George Cheshire's sister. That would make you both cousins. She has hit a brick wall with finding Ada and her family on the 1871 census as well as Ada on earlier ones as well. Like Florence we are wondering if she was born before her mother married George Cheshire Sr. and then Ada later took the Cheshire name. Did you have any luck and do you know anything more about Ada by chance?
Warmest regards,
Gail

Hi Gail,
This is very interesting!! I'll have to look in to my tree documents to get my head round this and get back to you, but will do so as soon as I can!! I've had no luck and haven't done anything on the tree for a while - sort of gave up!
Will be in touch!

Hi Gibonee,
Have you seen this entry?
FLORENCE FISHER b. Sept quarter 1868 Caxton Cambridgeshire.

Also
FLORENCE FISHER
b. 1866 Sept quarter
North Witchford, Cambridgeshire

Hi,
I have seen the North Witchford one and it's definitely not my Florence, but I need to check on the other one. I think I've lokked in to it before. I'd been searching for her for so long with the help of many kind people on Rootschat and had come up with nothing that I asked a professional researcher to look for her too. Unfortunately she came up with nothing either, that's when I left the tree a while ago.
Do you have a copy of your friends tree that you could send to me so that I can see how it all fits together? I know that George senior was from Leicester, but that's it so far.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Kind regards

Hi Gibonee,
Do you have access to Ancestry? Her tree is on there as well as a tree that has a picture of George Jr with many records. If you do Stephanie's tree is entitled "Pepe" and the other "Williams master tree".
Warmest regards,
Gail

Hi Gail,
Wow!! There are in fact three trees that have George Cheshire included in them! So pleased! I just signed up today so that I could look. I have spoken to my Dad and yes, he remembers May Ada! Their son who I knew as "Digger" was very close to me, my Dad and my Nan.
Perhaps we need to get in touch other than here? Where does Staphanie live? All very exciting!!
Kind regards Gib

We are in Oshawa Ontario. Are you positive he knew her as MAY ADA? On all of the records Stephanie has/knows about she is Ada E. My email is (*) I hope to see Steph tonight at work so I'll let her know what's happening. You're right this IS exciting- and I'm not even a relative LOL.

Hi Gibonee,
Was speaking with Stephanie this evening and she says that there was a May Ada married to a George Cheshie but her GGreat Grandma was Ada E Cheshire/Knapp/Godfrey. Ada's brother was your Florence's husband George Cheshire (the bricklayer) Jr..
Warmest regards,
Gail :)

Hi
Sorry I haven't had chance to get back to you yet!! I've been extremely busy at work and also at home. I'll try and get back to you sometime today. From memory I have a Florence Godfrey as witness to my Florence's marriage, obviously a relative of your Ada.
Will be in contact soon!!!
Warmest regards
