Request look up please for the Henry family living at 94 Upper Essex Street, Toxteth, Liverpool, in particular, is JOHN HENRY at this address? If you can help I would be obliged. Thanks.
-
If there is a 1914 Directory It wont show all at an address it only gives the tenants name. The directories are in the libraries, as far as i know none have the full set unless The Liverpool one has them.

Thanks. Isi.

Thanks to all who replied to my request.
Would be most grateful for further information on the tenant at 94 Upper Essex St. Toxteth Park, Liverpool in any later editions of this street directory.
Here's hoping someone can break my brick wall.
Thanks once again. Isi.

I have 1938 Directory, he wasn't there then.

Hi Jan,
Thanks for your reply.
Can you tell me who was there? Was it his wife Fanny /Annie Henry, who was a midwife or any other member of the Henry family?
Many thanks. Isi.

Hi Isi,
At 94 Upper Essex St in 1938 was James Savoury - Rigger.
I looked in the name index and there was no John Henry - Painter or a Fanny Henry Midwife.

Hi Jan,
Thank you for the information.
I was afraid that they weren't going to be there at this time. I do know that some members of the Henry family were there in 1934 (from marriage certificate) but trying to narrow it down in order to trace the death of the mother Fanny/Annie Henry who was a midwife.
Thanks for your time, very grateful.
Isi.

Do you know how old any of them might have been in 1914 or 1934
Do you have them on census etc.
What other info can you give me?
Perhaps a look in the deaths indexes from 1934 onwards might help.

Hi Jan,
Thanks for your interest. This is the information I have.
In the 1901 census the Henry family are living at 94 Upper Essex Street, Toxteth Park, as follows:-
John Henry, Head, 48, Painter; Annie, Wife, 42; Margaret, Daughter, 21;
John, Son, 18; Alice A, Daughter, 16; Mary A, Daughter, 12 ; Hugh, Son, 5;
Norah, Daughter, 1.
There was one other son, my father, born later in 1901 who was living at the family address when he married in 1934. Margaret (also a midwife) and John never married and I assume they lived at this address until their mother died. Norah died in infancy and Hugh died in WW1. The other members of the family married.
We know that John Henry Senior died some time before 1918 and we’re awaiting the death certificate.
I’ve checked the death indexes for Annie and have a possibility in 1937 (aged 78) but older members of our family do not remember her being alive in their lifetime so it is only a possibility. We don’t have a definite DOB for Annie and we have already ordered three wrong birth certificates so want to be sure before ordering again, as it can get very expensive.
If you can throw any light on the matter it would be very much appreciated. Thanks Isi.

Hi Isi,
I had another look at the 1938 Directory and found
Miss Margaret Henry (midwife) 1a Carlton Hill 8

Isi,
What was Annie's maiden name? did John and Annie marry in 1877? possibly Annie T McEvoy?

Hi Jan,
That's good news finding Margaret Henry at 1a Carlton Hill 8, this address certainly rings a bell. Another address that comes to mind is Hodges Mount, off Northill Street, (don't know the number). How is the directory indexed, by address or by householders name? Would it be possible for you to check this address for me if its not an inconvenience? Thanking you. Isi.
Just received your last posting, yes you are correct - Annie Teresa McEvoy married John Henry in 1877.

Hi Isi,
The directories have both surname index and street indexes, so I can look in both, but mainly only the head of the household or anyone in the household that has a trade is listed.
I will have a look for Hodges Mount, (never heard of that) but I know North Hill St very well, I was born in the area, and all my family were from Toxteth.

I see the Henry's and other family members were with Annie's mother Elizabeth at 55 Essex St in 1881.
Annies age is about three years out on the 1901, I can't find them in 1891, to check Annies age, but I have the census on cd's so I will have a look in 1891 for Essex Street, or Upper Essex Street.
(a bit off topic) I went to school in Toxteth and I remember a girl called Karen Henry! I wonder if there was a connection?

:(
Had a look in 1938 for Hodges Mount, no Henry's living there, looked like it was a small street numbers 1-31 and 2-30.
I will get back to you on the 1891 unless you have the details.

Thanks again Jan,
I already have them in 1891 at 2 Steble Grove, Toxteth.
Regading Karen Henry she could possibly be connected - we left Liverpool in about 1941 to live in Burnley. I don't have knowledge of any other siblings for John Henry senior but its possible there could be some in Liverpool. Isi.
Received your last posting - yes remember Hodges Mount as being a small street.
Very much appreciate your time and effort.
Best wishes. Isi.

Hello,
I actually lived in Hodges Mount No 21. left in 1969 when they knocked our houses down. I have a Kellys directory for 1966 if that is any help to anyone.

Hi Shirley Valentine,
I am looking for info on the Fricker family of 31 Hodges Mount(c.1881 census) a very large family- so was really pleased to see your posting.
Do you have any photos or info to share of the street/people by any chance please as I gather the houses were knocked down?
thank you
