I am looking for the marriage and baptism of James Holbourn to Mary.
Their daughter Elizabeth married Henry Langley in 1834. It appears Elizabeths siblings were born between 1785 and 1813. I have found what I think to be James baptism in 1760 as I think his parents were probably William and Sarah. All in Chipping Barnet
I would really like to know when James married Mary and what Marys maiden name was.
Kind regards

Hi Tigsy,
The Chipping Barnet parish register records that 'James HOLEBOURNE son of William and Sarah was baptized August 14th 1760.'

Thank you that is great.
I guess there are so many derivations on the name Holbourn - this gives me more ideas of names to try in finding the marriage of James and Mary.
Would the LMA have the records for Chipping Barnet as I would very much like to know more about this family, such as their occupations etc.
Many thanks again for this information.
Kind regards

James Holbourn is my family tree and I have details of his parents marriage. Is the family your family tree?
-
Thank you, lovely to hear from you, yes I am a direct descendent of James Holbourne and Mary. James was my Gt Gt Gt Gt Grandfather, so any information you have on the Holbournes would be great!

Thank you for your reply - William Holbourn (m) Sarah Parker 12 Oct 1756 at St. John the Baptist's
Chipping Barnet
Their son was James Holbourn Christened 14 Aug 1760
He married Mary ? There is no trace of this marriage in the parish register
They had a son Joseph Christened 3 June 1804 - I have a copy of the baptism certificate that gives his parents names as James and Mary Holborn
Joseph Holborn (m) Elizabeth Brown in1837
They had a son Frederick who married Sarah Vickery
They had a son George who is my father
Can you let me have your tree please - I have the names of other children born from names above
At times the name Holbourn gets changed to something similar

Thank you are you aware that Joseph married again and moved to Dartford. I know the church where he was buried although there is no headstone.
I will look forward to exchanging information regarding the Holbourns.

Thank you for the reply - I know where they used to live in Dartford. Can you please let me know if you are part of the family tree or looking for information for some one else. I live in Kent, which county do you live in?

Thanks, I am looking for myself. My connection is via Elizabeth Holbourne who married Henry Langley. Its part of my grandmothers family as her maiden name was Langley. I took an interest in her siblings and found out about the Dartford connection. I live about 5 miles from Dartford and visited the church that Joseph was buried, although I know there is no headstone. I did spend a day at the Hertfordshire records office trying to locate details about James and Mary without success.
I did find out below about James parents William and Sarah.
It would be really interesting to share information about the Holbournes as its so frustrating not being able to find out about James and Marys marriage to get a maiden name for Mary. I would also like to know more about William and Sarah to take that back another generation if possible.
• William and Sarah 1756 married by license. The ‘mark’ of Wiliiam Holbourn and Sarah Parker, in the presence of the ‘mark’ of Mary Parker and John Godfrey.
• 1759 – 1768 William is listed on the ‘militia’ list frm 1759 to 1768 as being exempt. Occ: Carpenter.
• 1772 William HOLBOURNE ~~ Hannah CRAWLEY 11Nov1772
• William was a widower and Hannah a spinster of the parish. Both signed their own names and witnesses were Cornelius Cope and John Godfrey.
• As John Godfrey is a witness both times it implies that this is Williams second marriage. William HOLBOURN of Chipping Barnet a widower and Hannah CRAWLEY of the parish, a spinster were married by Licence on 19Nov1772. Witnesses Cornelius COPE and John GODFREY (Parish clerk).

I believe the marriage of James and Mary took place on 14th January 1784 at St James, Clerkenwell, which is about 6 miles up the road from Chipping Barnet.
The detail is James Holborn and Mary Lawrence.
This fits in nicely with the christening of their first child, James William Holbourn, on 28th March 1785.
This record is now availably on Ancestry. Unfortunately I have not been able to trace Mary any further. There were a lot of Lawrences on the Clerkenwell records and I have not been able to find baptisms on line after 1754.
James is my Gt Gt Gt Gt Gt Grandfather.
