Hi David,
On reading your other post about the Parkin family, I'm not sure if you want to trace George William 1860 back.
I have found him I think but just as George, he's the only one born Oughtbridge.
I have all the details and the images but won't type them all out if you do not require them.

I am a direct decendent (gg.G) of George Parkin b. 1810 d. 1877 in Oughtibridge. In 1851 there were 9 families of Parkins living in Oughtibridge, and I think we have just about sorted out who are brothers, cousins etc. We have other interesting details of their lives.
If theres anything I can do to help, please let me know.

Hello
Thank you for your interest. The reason that I am interested in a George W Parkin is that my Great Aunt Jane Ibbotson married a George W Parkin in 1916. In 1901 Jane was 30, single, and head of house at Stanley Fold Oughtibridge, along with my Grandfather William. According to the 1901 there was a George W Parkin and family also living at Stanley Fold. What I can work out is that it's this George W Parkin who Jane married after the death of his first wife. Would you have any knowledge of this.

I dont think this Grorge is on my tree although its pretty sure he's a distant cousin. I have a George William, but born in 1898, my grandfathers brother. Previously my g.grandfathers brother was George b1869, but we recently confirmed he is a George Henry.
I'm planning to do some more work on that side of the family in the next few weeks, and will come back to you if I turn something up.

Hello David.
There is marriage at the Church of Ascension Oughtibridge.
12 Sept 1915 for George William PARKIN aged 30 bachelor. Father George William PARKIN and Jessie DAVIS aged 29 Spinster. Father Richard DAVIS.
This appears to be the George William born in 1885. There is no marriage for Jane IBBOTSON at this church so perhaps it was Bradfield St Nicholas.
Kind Regards

Hi Tuppie & np-sheffield
If you notice the posting above for "1891 George W Parking " living at Officers Row (this was next to Stanley Fold). There is a son aged 6 also George W, which I had previously missed. This could well have been the George that my Jane married in 1916? (George would have been 31 & Jane 46 at time of marriage) and not GW senior. Also there is another strange family twist as there is a stepson with the Parkin family...Harry Fairest which was ( I have not got my paper work with me to check) Jane's mothers maiden name.

Hi David.
From the dates you have given I think it is the 1885 George William PARKIN who married Jessie DAVIS in 1915.
The age at marriage fits and the father on the marriage certificate is George William PARKIN.

Hi Tuppie
You may well be right, perhapse it was Georg W (senior) that married my Jane. he would have only been 56 in 1916
The 1891 show's George's wife as Martha aged 39. According to FreeBMD there is a 1914 Wortley death for a Martha Parkin aged 63, which would fit. I may have to send for Jane's marriage certificate to clarify.

Forgive me if I 've got this wrong - this is my first post in this forum.
I arrived here via a google search. My forebears are PARKINS. My Grandfather & Great Grandfather were from the woodhouse area of Sheffield but very recent information from a new source suggests that their predecesors were gamekeepers in the Wortley area - possiibly at Wortley House. An unconfirmed story indicates that one of my relatives 4 or 5 generations back (in the early 19th/late 18th Century was actualy murdered whilst on his rounds as a gamekeeper on the Estate with his brother and a trial ensued at York Assizes.
Some of the persons involved may have been a James or posssibly Joseph PARKIN.
Does anyone have any knowledge of tthis incident or these people.
Thank you in anticipation, theluddite.

For Tuppie
Regarding the George W Parkin that married Jessie David in 1915. You say that the certificate gave his father as George William Parkin. Do you have the certificate? does it give any addresses.

David.
We (S&DFHS) trancribed the Church of Ascension Marriage and Baptism registers last year. The index includes the father's names for the bride and groom. Address not given.
