Hi there...I have been offered the chance to purchase a copy of The National Burial Index ,I beleive it is called. It is £40.00 and therefore before i jump in I was wondering if any one of you could advise me....is it worth it?,
I am mainly concerened with Suffolk(Polstead, Nayland and surrounding) and Essex. I could maybe find another item that could be helpful if this is not as great as it sounds but can't buy 2 things
Many thanks

It really depends on how often you are likely to use it. Suffolk burials (inlcuding those on the NBI) are online at familyhistoryonline which is the Federation of Family History Societies website. You buy credit usually £5 at a time and are charged nothing for searching but 10 pence for every entry that you choose to look at.

I am slightly puzzled by this. Is someone offering you a copy secondhand? It is available new for £39.30 at Genfair.

If you do go for it, make sure it is Version 2. I'm puzzled at the price too - you can get it cheaper at Genfair. The version 2 edition claims to have about 836,000 Suffolk records.

The Suffolk Family History Society sells the Suffolk Burial Index for £15.
