Hi all,
I am looking for the birth of a Henry Stephens,(my Grandfather)as it happens.I have his certificate of his marriage to my Grandmother in 1900 it tells us he was 36 years old,and his Father was Aaron Stephens. I have followed his lilfe till his death in 1933. On the 1901 census it states he was born in Glamorgan Wales. In the 1871 census I found a Henry Stephens aged 7, just the right age,he is stated to be an adopted
orphan. .I just can't find any trace of him from there onwards until his marriage,I have looked in the 1181 % 1191 census but no trace at all. I may be barking up the wrong tree.
Has anyone any ideas on what I should do next please ?
Many Thanks
Tibia

Hi Again,
The reason I took this line is that i found a death entry of a Jane Stephens who died the same year as the young Henry Stephens was born. This lady died in the exact area of wales where james was found to be living on the 1871 census. It could be the poor soul died in childbirth or soon after. If nothing else comes to light I may send for this lady's death certificate.

Hi Tibia,
As you are not sure of anything apart from his marriage details and 1901 census try posting all the details of his marriage certificate as this might help in tracing him in the 1891/1881/1871 census.
Some kind person with more experience than me might be able to help you. ;)
1901 RG13/2601 F66 P36
Henry Stephens H/36/Pit Sinker, Glamorgan Wales...(added in thick pen WELL)
Amelia Stephens/wife /21 " "
Ellen Baumster/mother/48 " "
Big age difference between Henry and Amelia, could he have been married before. ???

Hi
I think Ellen's surname is Bannister. What was Amelia's name on the marriage certificate? I assume it is her mother and not his - though strictly speaking it should say mother in law in that case. Too young to be Henry's mum. How old was he at marriage - did it say bachelor?

Hi Sillgen,
Yes this is the correct family,Amelia was my Grandmother and Henry was my Grandfather. All of their children of course were my uncles & aunts,I knew most of them and the only one I didn't know I was told about by my parents.
Amelia (nee) Williams and Henry moved to County Durham with their children and added another 4 to them,Amelia died in 1940 aged 60 and Henry died in 1933 aged 69.Helen Banister was married formerly to John Williams,he died very young at the age of 35.I remember hearing my father talking of Grandma
Bannister,so all fits place.
Oh,by the way ,yes ,the maiden name on Amelia's marriage certificate is Williams. The only thing missing is the birth of Henry and where was he the first 36 years of his life.
Thanks for offering your help, let's hope we can all come up with somthing.
