In 1832 David Guthrie & Christian Gavin had a son David the OPR
States that father David Guthrie was a seaman
In the 1841 census for Elie David Guthrie is not their
Only his Wife son David & daughter Agnes
Where was David could he have been at sea ?
In the 1851 Census for Elie
He still is not there only his wife and 5 Children
But he had been back home as his daughter Christian was born 1846
And his wife Christian is listed as married
In the 1861 Census for Elie David is still not there
And his wife is still listed as married and a Mariners wife 2 daughters staying with her
1871 Census for Elie his wife Christian is now a widow and 1 daughter is staying
with her
You would assume that David died between 1861 & 1871
Christian Gavin died in Elie 1888 and her husband is listed on the death certificate
As being a ships Captain
There is nothing on Scotlands people for his death, “ Where else should I look “
Where would I find some information on Ships Captains for 1860 ?
The son David Guthrie born 1832 Elie went to the USA around 1858
And died in 1891 in Galveston Texas,
Where can I find a ships passenger list with him on it ?

Hi Norrie G,
Perhaps you have already seen it, but the Cupar library has an article on his death in Galveston, dated 6 Mar 1891; East Fife Record.
Also on Ancestry.Co.Uk is a family tree posted for David George Guthrie who fits and is worth study.
Exhaustive studies of the 1880 Texas census did not reveal anything conclusive except for a Capt D Guthrie (Page 11, dist 62) b 1832 Scotland married to a "D Guthrie" of Hamburg, Germany. Doesn't really fit.
None of these answer your questions, but you did get some effort and this might help.

Hi Joel yes this is the David Guthrie that went to the states,
we know that he was a captian of a pilot boat out of Galvenston
this wife was (Antoinette Costard from Hamburg)
We have free access to Ancestory at the local library, so will get down this week to check the tree.
I did check the 1880 Census for him in Galveston but found nothing.
I have contacted Elie History Society who are looking
for the Captian David Guthrie who died 1861 to 1871
somewhere.
Thanks for your input

Hi again,
There are a number of references to David Guthrie in the Galveston Daily News from about 1884 to 1891 as one of few registered 'pilots' in the city. Nothing of great note except a reference to daughter Agnes from 7 Aug 1888 as attached.
Formal Death and marriage records were not established in Texas until 1903. Research implies that he passed away on 09 Feb 1891; there is not an obit the Daily News or other studied sources.
Regards
Joel
