Does anyone know what has happened to the Deal & Walmer family history site?
http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/deal_kent_ancestry

Hello Bearkat,
The latest address I had for the website was:
http://ancestrydealkent.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/ This URL now takes one to the 'orange' URL with new address. But, the page was built in Flash Player and even though it appears to load there is nothing revealed even after a wait of 10 minutes.
Wanadoo was the former ISP arm of OrangeSA a french telecommunications company. Since 1 June 2006 the Wanadoo divisions have been slowly replaced by the orange.--- URL and it may be that the holder of the Deal website opted out and discontinued the website.
Try searching the cached pages at http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://ancestrydealkent.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/
The latest one on Feb 10, 2008 indicates that the site was last updated 5th May 2006. But I could not see a contact name.
I hope this helps.

Just wondered if anyone knew of a new URL for the site.
Looks as if it has gone. :(

Hello Bearcat
I see you have Bayly family listed.
Perhaps you can let me know if the came from Deal or Folkestone.

He knows a huge amount about that area of the Kent coast so may know what's happened to the site ?

I have e-mailed the person whose site it is to find out what has happened, as I have it linked from my website.
I will let you know if I get a reply.

Hi, I am the owner of the DealKentAncestry Website. It seems that Orange have pulled the plug on me! The original website was build using the Wanadoomysite setup, but Orange have changed all that and it appears that all my data was not transferred and is now lost.
If you're feeling miffed about the loss of the website, please try to imagine how I am feeing having spent many, many hours working on it :'(
Lin.
Thank you ORANGE!! ... Mobile phone now in the dustbin!
-
I'm sorry about that Lin - you must be furious >:(
Nothing Orange do surprises me.
Carole
Another disgruntled Orange customer, who never asked to be an Orange customer.

Dear English Rose,
I am sending you a PM concerning your data.
Sincerely,
Zacktyr

I ran out of space on Freeserve, so when Dixons sold out Freeserve to the French I jumped ship and moved my site to Freeuk - I didn't hang around long enough to see it get sold on to Orange.
I have had no problem with Freeuk at all, and I have split my website into 3 to get more space, and I also have a 4th site on the same server for the Deal branch of the Kent FHS.
I hope you can sort something out to recover your site Linda - you certainly had put a lot of work into it.

Hi EnglishRose,
My computer has been broken so I haven't been able to get in touch.
I'm really sorry to hear that Orange has given your site the boot. I bet you're miffed. >:(
I and many other researchers appreciated all the hard work that had gone into creating your website and it is a sad loss to us as well as you.
If there any chance you can can your data back (via the Internet archive search engine perhaps) and get a site up and running again?
