Title: A date for this photo?
Post by: nixtee on Sunday 28 September 08 17:43 BST (UK)
We have two copies of the photo below, so I'm assuming it must be either somebody in the family or somebody very close to the family. I have a thought of who it may be, but without a date I can't be all that sure. So I was wondering if somebody here could help? I'd be very grateful!

The photo was taken by John Owen of Newtown, North Wales (well, it says North Wales, but it's actually Mid Wales!).

There is nothing on the back apart from some handwritten numbers which I'm wondering if they could be the date. It looks like 23.2.93.  Do you think it could be the date of the photo?

Also, how old would you say the woman is in the photo?

P.S. - I'm not really looking for any restoration on this photo as I am quite capable myself, however if you would like to "restore" it then don't let me stop you  :)

The style of card & clothing could certainly place this in the early 1890's.She looks to be in her 30's.

Thanks for your observations, Jim. The woman I think it could be would just be touching 40 at that time.

that raked back hair style made women look older so I gave her the benefit of the doubt and shaved a few years off but she could be 35-40.

I agree - early/mid 90s and the lady would be about 40 I thought, at the oldest.

Gorgeous pic - the lady is trying to hold back a smile by the looks  ;D
