I'm searching for any information on Sarah AWTY before her marriage to Edward Walter SPENCER at Ecclesall Sheffield on 25 Dec 1867.
On her marriage certificate she claims to be 22, and is illegitimate. So far I've not managed to find her on the 1851 or 1861 census, and her birth does not appear to be registered.

Her mother may have married pre-1851 and Sarah could be shown under that married name

Hi
I thought I would start by looking for her with Edward in 1871 but am not having much luck? Do you have a census reference? Ah, found her in 1881. She is 33 then so age at marriage might be a bit out - or the census might be! Actually she has obviously discovered the secret of eternal youth as in 1891 she is 40! A child bride??

Sarah is on the 1871 census living with her husband's parents - Edward & Eliz. SPENCER. She is listed as aged 25. On the 1901 census she is aged 53.
The idea that her mother may have married and she would have been recorded under her new name is a good suggestion - it should be possible for me to check all these families as there are so few women with the surname AUTY.

Hi
Freebmd has no female Auty marriages 1845-1851 in Sheffield but has these 3 Awty entries
Marriages Mar 1850
Awty Lucy Sheffield 22 516
Marriages Mar 1851
Awty Alice Sheffield 22 517
Awty Jane Sheffield 22 52
Problem is that there are quite a variety of possible spouses on the same page
