Thank you Adam for your reply.

Once again I'm afraid not one of mine, maybe some day I'll get lucky. Maybe all my family were too poor to have markers. :(

Hello Seed Pod. There were two gravestones for Brownless.
One was for Henry and Margaret.
The other was for Henry, Ann, George, Ralph, Eleanor.
Both had weathering damage making parts unreadable.
There were no more for Brownless but there are two for the other Hull name that you mentioned.

Post by: Adamand on Tuesday 21 April 09 11:19 BST (UK)
Hello Mandy. Here is what can be read on the two gravestones.
They have both been scraped by someone else looking for Williamson surname.
In scraping them they have damaged them, making it difficult for others following  to find Williamson information.

In loving memory of John Williamson of Brancepeth, died March/11/19?? aged 84 years.
Also Jane Williamson, wife of the above, died June/27/1916 aged 80 years.

To the memory of William Williamson of Brancepeth, who died September/25/1834 aged 9??
Also Sarah, sister of the above , who died 9/August/1856 age ??
Also Thomas Williamson.

Sorry that is all that can be read.

Title: Re: Monumental Inscriptions for Brancepeth
Post by: Adamand on Monday 27 April 09 21:03 BST (UK)
Hello Linda. Here they are. The first two are a bit iffy to read:-

Here lieth the body of John Brown of Brancepeth, who departed this life the 14th November 1763 aged ?4 years
Here lieth the body of Ma ?????????, departed this life 28 day of ???????.

Sacred to the memory of Sarah, child of John and Mary Brown of Seaton Deleval Hall, Northern Ireland, who died February/11/1852 aged 11? years.
Also the above John Brown, died April/10?/1859 aged 56 years.
Mary Brown, wife of the above John Brown???????1865.

Sacred to the memory of Robert Brown, who died on the 27/April/1844 aged 27 years.
Also George Brown, who died December/17/1848 aged 24 years.

Sacred to the memory of Jane, daughter of Robert and Sarah Brown of Stockley, who departed this life April/11/1809 aged 13 years.
The above named Sarah Brown, died December/12/1840 aged 73 years.
Also the above Robert, who died May/??/1847 aged 91 years.

Sorry about all the ???? but I suppose you can except it with old gravestones.

I have also posted the Brown inscriptions for Willington on post number 34.
With Willington and Brancepeth being so close it may be of interest.

Post by: Adamand on Monday 18 May 09 21:44 BST (UK)

Hello Kay. Here is part of the inscription for Taylor.
The stone is bad condition and unreadable in most part.

Sacred to the memory of Robert Taylor of Willington, who died  3/June/??? aged 60 years.
Also Anne, wife of the said Robert Taylor, who departed this life  June/??/1860? age 71 years.
The other side of the stone is a little clearer
Likewise to preserve the memory off Mary Ann Mellanby?, grand daughter of Robert and Anne Taylor, who's name is on the other side of this stone?
departed this life January/6/1848? aged 17 years.

There are 4 gravestones at Willington for Taylor that may be usefull?

Hello Linda. Only one for Fleetham:-

In memory of Mary, daughter of George and Mary Fleetham, who died February/171763? aged 10years and 8 months. The year 17 is correct but the 63 part is a bit iffy because of lichen on the date.

Hi Adam,

Thanks very much for the info wrt Bowes burials at St Brandons, Brancepeth.

Unfortunately there does not appear to be a connection with the Bowes family that I am researching which are Thomas Bowes and his son Thomas who occupied Quarry Hill House between c1690 to c1750.

Thanks once again.

Regards,

Thanks Adam. Sadly this is not mine although you never know I might find a connection later on.  :-\

You seem to have collated a lot of monumental inscriptions. Do you have any for Houghton or Easington? Still looking for Tindale or Tindall.
Regards
Alison

This picture was taken not too far from Brancepeth, I note that it has a variation on the name Tindale (i.e. Tindile).  Could it be part of what you are looking for?

Regards,

Hampan

I am interested in the Wallace family from Brancepeth. Any info appreciated :)

I have one family stone containing details of:  George WALLACE who died on (or around 8 May 1847.  Stone eroded over detail.  Also included on the same stone, Jane Wallace wife of George, who died 24 Aug 1820, also Thomas Wallace who died 2 Dec 1841? aged 28 years, Elizabeth Wallace who died 11 Nov 1841 aged 15, Alice Wallace (wife of George Wallace of Scripton) who died 3 Mar 1851, Hannah Wallace who died 5 May 1879 aged 88 (shown as originating Primrose Side).  Finally, Ann Wallace, details eroded.  The family were from Unthank, Scripton and Primrose Side.

Not sure if it is the right Wallace or not, but they are interred at St Brandon's Church, Brancepeth.

Thanks Adam, we clearly have at least one of the same stones, I have modified my date of death for George to 1847, because having checked it again, you are correct.  Thomas Wallace however was 28 at time of death.
