Title: WW2 In The Highlands
Post by: Maia261 on Tuesday 23 September 08 14:39 BST (UK)
I found this link while looking for one of my elusive Caithness Ancestors and have spent a fascinating hour or so wandering through the many pages of interesting Highland snippets, including the bombing of Wick and Thurso with eye-witness accounts.

There's an Invernessian who was a Lance Bombardier in the Royal Artillery during World War 2 and was sent to defend the Faroe Isles and loads of other wee bits to whet the appetite of anyone with an interest in local history.

I found reference to many places from Nairn to Orkney and lots of places in between.

Enjoy.

Thanks for that link, Lynn  :)

I have been told some great stories of WW2 by some older residents of 'my'  side of the Highlands.

That "http://www.ww2inthehighlands.co.uk/index.html" link seems defunct now.
