Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how to get access to Knaresborough parish records without having to make over a 600 mile round trip?
I have an Edward Mountain Saunders b. 1823 Knaresborough d.1873 Sheffield,
his mother was Ann Saunders b.1801,Yorkshire, possibly Leeds.
Any help would be much appreciated.

The "Yorkshire Archaeological Society" with a Family History section, at Leeds,
may well help you. Tel.0113 2457910. Closed Mondays. I think West Yorkshire Archives now administer records. Also see WYKS Archives, Wakefield.
What records do you want ? Gragareth.

Thank you for that, Gragareth,
I need to know if a father is listed for Edward Mountain Saunders and if Ann, his mother, married a Saunders, if so was her maiden name Mountain because of Edward's middle name. I hope that makes sense!
Many thanks again,

Firstly contact those archives, and good luck. I do have the Knaresboro' parish
churchyard memorial inscriptions. Copies of my work were given to archives including those mentioned. There are no Saunders. Four Mountain inscriptions.
Mountain is in my ancestry, and earliest a few miles west of Knaresboro'. Then goes into Leeds. No connexion with Knaresboro'. However from much research it appears Mountains were scattered around Knaresboro', to Otley, at least.
Especially mid 18th cent to later 19th cent. quite prolific. Whether all of the same ancestry, not determined. Gragareth.

The North Yorkshire Records Office in Northallerton holds many of the Parish records for Knaresborough - I was there a couple of months ago doing Knaresborough research and they were really helpful
