Title: Tracing A Family History In Mauritius.

 :) Please can someone help me with my question on how to go about tracing a family members Ancestry who now lives here in England,but he's Ancesters were born in Mauritius. How can we obtain info from that Country,if any.? The person came from* Maybough* Mauritius. He knows his very distant relatives were slaves , but thats all he doe's know.
I would be very grateful if anyone knows where we could start his search please.

Hi

Ancestry has Slave registers of former British Colonial Dependencies 1812-34 - includes Mauritus so might be a starting point?

Have asked Chris to move your post to a board where you will get more help than here in Sussex :D

Hi Christine. I have only had the response you see on this posting Im afraid.
I am not getting anywhere with mine at the moment, if you keep a watch on this posting as I do,maybe someone might help us one day soon. Sorry I have not been helpful.  :(
