Title: W Collins
Post by: danoe on Sunday 30 January 05 03:02 GMT (UK)
Hi eveyone,
I was hoping that someone would have some info on William Collins b1828 in IPING, SUSSEX. His parents were William and Jane, no other info.
He had moved to Surrey by 1856.
All the very best

This should be your man in the 1871 census. His stated birthplace Chidhurt is almost certainly Chithurst, West Sussex which touches the boundary of Iping Parish.

Hi Hackstaple,
Thanks heaps for that. All those other names, location and dates fit right in. Now I need to try and pick him up on the 1841 census to get a lead on his parents.

Glad it helped. I have no access to any Sussex 1841 material and Chris 1066 is no longer with  us and he knew plenty. Let us see if any other Rootschatter can help with Iping and/or Chithurst 1841.

Hi danoe,

You'll find the Collins surname prevalent from the 17th century forward in Iping & Chithurst.

My 5th Greatgrandmother was Jane Collins 28 Nov 1778, born to William & Martha at Iping West Sussex. She married James Ide 3 Jun 1799 at Iping. The Ide surname is my main interest.

I am going to the SOG today and will look to see if they have a copy of the Iping 1841 census. If they do I will check for William and let you knoe.

Good luck

Marc Ide.

Edit: This looks like your William found on the IGI:

William Collins b 22Sep 1828 chr 28 Dec 1828 Iping.

Thanks for that Chris.
Unfortunately I can't see any connections there. I guess it's possible the Collins' family moved to Surrey prior to the 1841 census.
