Title: Clydebank Scotland Chemical Factory

I know there was a chemical factory in Clydebank.
Would anyone know what type of chemical factory?
I know there was suppose to be a soap factory in Clydebank. Was this they type of chemical factory it was?

Welcome to Rootschat.

It was Stanford & Co Ltd in Whitecrook and opened in 1864.  Later taken over by North British Chemical Co.  Closed 1954.

It's original purpose was to extract iodine from seeweed.  It went on to make other chemical products such as detergents and was known locally as "the Soap Factory".

I have relatives that worked in the chemical factory 1891, 1901.
They alternated work between the chemical factory, shipyards and coal distribution.
