I have an Emma Oxley in my family tree , all i know about her is she was born on the 10 august 1884 and is British born , she married in 1903 to Charles Pataky
does anybody else have this lady in their family tree or know anything about her or her family. Emma was my great grandmother

if you know her birth date, then you should be able to correlate a birth in the gro indexes.
That will show where to look for her in census and may reveal parentage & siblings.
This IS something that you can do yourself. (The GRO bit)

I'm looking for other relatives and stories about her. Of course I'm looking at the free BDM page but I haven't actually heard of the GRO indexes so thank you for that.

The GRO Indexes are what FreeBMD are transcribing!

Hi Kerryanne
Glad you've found FreeBMD! Then you will have found one entry for 1884:
Emma Oxley Huddersfield 9a 371 Dec Qtr 1884
I suggest you send for this certificate as it will give you Emma's parents and you can work backwards and sideways from that.
The marriage between Emma Oxley and Charles Arpad Pataky is 1907, not 1904:
Jun Qtr 1907 Pancras 1b 253
Do you have this certificate? This will hopefully confirm Emma's father's name for the birth certificate.
Kind regards
Gaie
Tazzie, you beat me to it!!

Hi Gaie....
Do not think she was the Huddersfield one as an Emma Oxley marries there in 1908......
There is one b 1883 Pancras Emma Oxley...
Here in 1901 .... RG13/145 F 140 P 84.

Thanks Tazzie! I checked the birth date first as it seemed so precise, and then checked the marriage and as we know that date was wrong; I should have rechecked the birth on that basis..... that lazy Sunday feeling doesn't work on RC, does it ;D ;D ;D
Hope between us we've managed to point you in the right direction, Kerryanne :)
Kind regards

tazzie and Gaie
Yes you have pointed me in the right direction thank you both very much for your help it is appreciated . I thought Emma was born in London because she married there but with family history you can never be 100% sure
The date i have comes from the national archives as she became a female enemy alien when she married my great grandfather
i will send off for their marriage certificate this week
cheers Kerry

Hello there Rick.
Since this message was originally posted the 1911 census has come out:
http://www.1911census.co.uk/
You can see the Pataky family there in West Ham.
http://www.movinghere.org.uk/
- if you search here for Pataky you'll find something on Emma in WWII, listing her as German by marriage but exempt from internment.

Thanks for this I have both of those bits of information although I don't have deaths for either Emma or Charles which is strange! I'm trying to get earlier info on Charles so any pointers or info would be great!Cheers
