Title: Would anyone like to find my Rochells for me?
Post by: genjen on Thursday 18 September 08 22:35 BST (UK)
It's a while since I posted any queries on this lot, so thought I'd give it another go, in the hopes that someone will be able to look at it with fresh eyes.

I have Emma Rochell, born, Ryton, Shropshire, 1826, daughter of Thomas and Emma Rochell. In the 1841 census she is with her parents and younger sister, Ellen, still in Shropshire - Wenlock area.

But Thomas and Emma were not born in that county, according to the census, and as all of the other Rochells in this tree came from Staffordshire, I am guessing that so did this couple. The other Rochells in the family were in the Brewood area around  the time of Thomas's birth c1800.

So, I am searching for the marriage of a Thomas Rochell to someone named Emma, around 1820-25 and a birth for Thomas 1800 - 1805 ( he was 39 in the 1841 census ) .

I can't find them in 1851 so they might have died, I might well have missed them as Rochell seems to have a million variations iin the spelling!

I know I have said all of this before but who knows, there might be someone new who knows the answers.

Cheers,

Jen

Hi,

I don't suppose this is going to help very much but in the 1861 census there is a Thomas Rotchell born c1802 in Brewood, Staffordshire, living in Shiffnal, Shropshire which is in the Wenlock area. However he is married to a Mary born in Codsal, Staffordshire. The reference is:

RG9/1852 folio 101 page 1

It is possible that Emma had died and Thomas had remarried.  Or of course it could be a completely different person!

Good luck with your search.

Thanks, yes, I had seen that one and considered it as a possiblity. Maybe I need to check harder for Emma's death. Equally, maybe his wife was one of these people who changed her name with each census - I have a few like that! I will certainly look into it.

Hi,

On the IGI there is an extracted entry for a Thomas Rochell christening on 4th April 1802 at St. Mary, Brewood, Staffs with parents Richard and Mary.  Again could be yours or not.  If it is yours he appears to be one of 9 children baptised in the same church to the same parents.

Cheers

There's a baptism in the Shropshire Baptisms for an Emma Rochell baptised 21/05/1826 in Ryton, Shifnal but it gives the parents as Thomas and Mary  ???
