Hi,
Would anyone be able to find Mary Ann Stark in the 1841 census for me please. According to the 1881 census (married name Ridley, living in Birtley, Durham), she was born in Usworth in 1825. In 1847 she married Gilbert Ridley. Gilbert had previously been married to Margaret Stark in 1837 (dont know if there's a connection to Mary).
Any help at all would be much appreciated.

1841 for Chester Le Street - looks like Eighton Banks
John Stark 65 quarryman
Ann 55
Thomas 20
Mary 15

A copy of her marriage cert will confirm her fathers name

Hi Carole,
Thank you so much for your prompt look-up. On the census did it say where they were born ?

Hi
The 1841 does not show actual birthplaces - only whether they were born in the county in which they were living at the time of the census. It also does not show relationships between the head of household and other members
All are shown as born in county (ie) Durham
I would recommend getting a copy of the marriage cert to check her fathers name and occupation as it may not be the correct Mary Stark
She is the only match age wise on the Durham 1841

Ok Carole,
Thanks again for your help.

HI Susan.
Just read your post and wondered whether you ever found out re Mary Stark.
My late husband comes from the line of Matthew Ridley a younger brother of Gilbert.
Have found Gilbert Ridley's death in Australia, where are few of the family immigrated to.
Thank you.

Hi Rainy,
The Gilbert Ridley in your family is a different Gilbert Ridley to mine. Two were born in the same area a few year apart. Mine died in England. Thank you for your post
