hi can anyone help me i'm trying to find the birth of my late mother in law june grogan, could be june margaret, fathers name james grogan, june was born 4 march 1918, she had brothers patrick and jack, and sister miora or maura, known as molly i think they were all older than june. june came to live in england and married here in 1940, but the rest of the family stayed in ireland i think in drimnah dublin. the two brothers patrick and jack emigrated to new zealand. any help or info on this family will be much appreciated. thanks jean

hi aghadowey thanks for the quick reply i have already applied to roscommon and they cant find any record, i dont know where to look next. june grogan born 1918 died in 1964 aged 46 and left quite a young family, so all we know is she was born in dublin drimnah i think, and from her english marriage certificate her father was called james grogan, but he was deceased in 1940 at the time of junes wedding. i dont know where to go from here. thanks for your reply. jean

Perhaps the family lived in Dublin but she happened to be born elsewhere. Or registered as female rather than with a Christian name?
-
hi if she was just registered as female would i still be able to get her birth certificate as i know her date of birth and fathers name. i know she was born in drimnah dublin. thanks for taking the time for me. jean

Hello Jean,
If you have not allready got Jame's death cert which would show his age at death, I would get it.
From his age you could caculate his age in the 1911 Dublin census and from that you should get some usefull information regarding older siblins ect.
Best of luck

Hi again,
You might like to e-mail the parish office with the birth date of June to see if she was baptised in that parish. The link is below.

the Dublin Diocesan Guide says that Mourne Road was setup in 1942 from Terenure parish and Dolphin's Barn parish - they might have the older records.

Hi
Have you tried checking the WW1 service records for a possible clue for the father?. He looks to have been the right age - The surviving record are gradually going online at Ancestry.
Best wishes

Hi
Thinking about it, the other place to try would be the |Irish Census for 2922 which is online for Dublin onky so far. Free to view the original and fascinating.
I'll look for a link, but easiest is to look at the link at the top of the Dublin board.
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/ (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/)
Link to 1911 Dublijn Census (Modified).
Best wishes

Hi Me yet again!
If your library has the Gale Newspaper Archive online, I've had quite a few entries from the Dublin papers for bmd's. They weren't al;l the rich and famous either. In fact quite the opposite.
I'll have a look around.
Best wishes

Hi
I did have a quick look and there are nine James Grogan's but I didn't know if any of them were near the place you said.
The other problem is variations in spellings. I found a froiend's Irish family still with great variation in spelling, even up to WW1.
Good kuck
