Post by: kerryanne on Monday 15 September 08 17:14 BST (UK)
Hi
I would like to know if anybody has a photograph of 92 Mare street hackney

I visited hackney a few weeks ago and the house had just been demolished
my great grandmother Edith Eliza Ripper aged 10 lived there in 1891 with her grandmother Mary Ann Ripper ( nee griffin ) b 1836  and her soon to be husband Charles Sutton

Have you tried Hackney Library (http://www.hackney.gov.uk/ca-archives.htm) ?

They claim to have a lot of Hackney archive material including photographs and old newspapers from the locality.

I agree - many libraries and museums are very happy to help those who are unable to visit in person.  I live about 100 miles from where my family comes from, and I've found the local museum most accomodating when I emailed them.

Thanks for the link Sylviaann - I found some great pictures of Homerton which will help to put flesh on the bones of research I'm doing for rellies in Aus.

Now, I wonder, do Bermondsey, Stepney and Lambeth have similar sites?

It's funny isn't it that most of the sites I have in my favourites for London no longer exist.

I find that if you do a search for the street that interests you and look at images something usually turns up.

Sorry i can't help
