Hi Dawn
have you checked your local/regional library - I can access the the times from home via my state library membership
Trish

Just off to check........
-
Most County libraries have an Online Reference Library which includes "The Times" via Thomas Gale free to holders of a library card.

Not Ealing :(
-
To be fair the freebie lasted longer than any other free offer I've ever had or seen, just not long enough though :(
Back to the library. ;D

I'm honestly surprised it lasted this long...I remember quite literally months ago looking at the site for my one name study.

Hi Dawn
The link below is to a list of online databases available at various London libraries. If you select resource and scroll down to the Times Digital Archive it tells you where its available.
You could see if you are eligible to join any other library.

Not in my London Borough but two neighbouring one do.

I joined both ;D

I joined both ;D
;D ;D
I'm about to join another also. My library has a limited number of licenses for home use, so if they are all used you have to wait. I have found I can join our national library, which also has access, so that will give me 2 chances :)

Just checked and under 18 cant join two Libraries.
-
I've sent off a request to join our National Library also. Several kind Rootschatters have told me that they also have the Gale newspapers database and Origins. Whoopee!! ;D

Hi Ruskie
If you haven't joined the state library - it is available too - and from how it is set up now, I think it will work with a BCC library card as well. I have so much plastic, I do get confused ::)

Hi Trish and Ruskie,
The National Library lets you access all sorts of licenced databases once you have your card.
I found the easiest way in was via the home page http://www.nla.gov.au/ where they have a "Get A Library Card" link.
Card arrived within a week. :D :D

Hi Dee and all
Tis amazing how things change. I have been at the state library quite alot lately. Computers have well taken over - very few people in the book areas, but the computer areas are overflowing & the microfilm room is somewhat crowded at times also. That will probably change as more of the "stuff" on film and fiche goes online :)
And it is one of the few areas where the government provides the services, with no charge to use same. I keep wondering when this will change!

Shhhhhh Trish! Don't speak too loudly. ;D ;D ;D

Thank you Andy, Trish and Dee.
I have joined the Qld State Library, but haven't used the card or anything else yet. I'm sure there are many gems there for me yet to discover. ;D
I'm going to check the links and join everything!
-
I've accessed the Times DA quite a bit, through the State Library!
Have sent off my request to the National Library. They will probably now be overwhelmed with requests to join from Rootschatters!! ::) ::)
Trish, don't you be giving the governments any ideas they shouldn't have, now!
