Hi,
I expect that most people here are aware of the project by the Dublin authorites to digitise the 1911 and 1901 census returns & make them available on-line free of charge, and of the recent announcement that Kerry, Antrim and Down for 1911 will be ready in October 2008.
But, does anyone here know anything more precise than "October"? Beginning, middle or end?
TIA

hi,
just had a look at the national archive site and it still says october with more precise timelines when available. the rest of the counties will be online between then and mid 2009 which i hadn't noticed before. i hope they keep to their schedule, a lot of people are patiently waiting. NOT! :)

It's October. Still no precise timetable.

it looks like a case of just checking on the site everyday. sods law says it'll be the last day of the month! or the 1st of november just to annoy everyone!

The last I heard Counties Antrim, Down and Kerry scheduled to come online are delayed (until November?).
Here's the link to 1911 Census on National Archives:
www.census.nationalarchives.ie
See under 'Future Plans' for the list of counties. The details at the top keep changing- yesterday's message was that they were starting with Co. Dublin in 2007 but this is this morning's message:
"The records for 1911 are being digitised first, then those for 1901. Kerry, Antrim and Down will be available online in October 2008. Publication of the other counties will follow, in the order listed below, between then and mid-2009. More precise timescales will be posted when available."
Think that like Co. Dublin it there will be delays nd it's a matter of waiting.

From the National Archives now November

Website text has been altered this morning to read:
"The 1911 Census records for Antrim, Down and Kerry will now be placed online in December, rather than October, as previously hoped. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused, and thank you for your patience."
Oh well.
-
"thank you for your patience"
people must be torturing them with e-mails and phone calls :)
-
Must be VERY close now - this morning for the first time the indexes of District Electoral Divisions for Antrim and Down are online - nothing further yet but keep watching! :) :) :) :) :)

Correction - in a few cases you can already "bore down" through DED and townland indexes to a list of households :) :)
-
I get 'Not Found' when clicking the links but hopefully we won't have to wait much longer.
-
Just found that myself - must only have been a test :'( :'(
-
at least something different.
well spotted 8)
i feel like taking the day of work now,any excuse will do ;)

The Dublin stuff that's already there is wonderful, so I'm really looking forward to this next phase.
As I'm not a taxpayer in RoI - which means that I'll get this facility for free - I've got no grounds for complaining, so I won't. However, I do think a more expansive & updated message would be in everyone's interests, including the poor telephone receptionist at the National Archives who must be completely fed up with calls about this.
Given the site has been up & running with Dublin info for many months now, I wonder why they needed to test in the way suggested. It may be that, instead, this is the beginning of the data load.
I know what I'll be doing while everyone else is dozing during the afternoon of 25th Dec . . .

I'm looking at Rosstrevor right now!
-
And now it's gone. Obviously still in test mode.
Still, I did manage to download a census return image.
-
its still there! if you keep hitting refresh, or just back up, the page will come.
i've only been looking at it for 10 minutes, and i cant find anybody ::), but it's great ;D
some surnames have been transcribed wrong, which is probably always going to happen, which will add to the fun ;)

Hi,
Just managed to get into Ballywalter Town, County Down, anybody any idea if the address is registered anywhere, couldn't find it on the original census form.
Regards

I missed the window when Antrim was on-line. Has anyone else found a way in?
