Could someone look up the name William Griffiths in the 1871 Census for Shropshire. William was born around 1830 and according to a family bible, was from Craven Arms, Shropshire. When he died in 1890, the bible showed him still living in Craven Arms.
If this is a ggg-grandfather, he would've had a son named John, born in Craven Arms in 1864, living with him.
Thanks a bunch,
Dan

Hello Dan
I've had a look at the 1871 census for Shropshire and there are several William Griffiths but none relevant to Craven Arms. Do you have any other details for him such as occupation, wife's name and children? I have also looked for John born 1864 and, again, nothing in Craven Arms with father William.

Hello Dan
I've now read your previous post and had a look again at the William Griffiths in Ludlow.
The only one I found which just might fit the bill is this one.
RG10 2728/63/34
Lang Lane Gate, Halford.
William Griffithes 41 Railway Labourer b.Hopesay
Charlott, wife, 42 b.Bromfield
John 10 b.Hopesay
Samuel William 4 b.? looks like Clungunford
There was another William with a son John but he was 36, a Farmer born in Oswestry. As I am not familiar with Shropshire I am not sure if any of these places are near Craven Arms.

Thanks for looking that up for me.
At this point I do not have anything else to go on. I have ordered the birth record of who I hope is John and the death certificate of William that is listed in the family bible. I'm hoping from those two documents that they are in fact the right people and that they are related.
Thanks again for looking and as soon as I get more information, hopefully I can confirm one way or another that the information you provided is on the correct Griffiths.

Hi Dan,
The census record, RG10 2728/63/34, found by delta looks to be a strong possibility.
All the villages mentioned are near Craven Arms; Halford is less than a mile NE, Hopesay about 3 miles W, Clungunford about 4 miles SW and Bromfield about 5 miles SSE towards Ludlow.
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Maurice.

Hey Maurice/Delta,
I agree as well. When I got home from work last night I did some general queries for Hopesay and located a map that showed Craven Arms very close by.
Can I order a Census record from the GRO? I'd love to see if, when I get the birth and death records back from the GRO, they match up with the Census record.
And another quick question about Shropshire, from some of the reading I did last night, it appears that the County was once considered part of Wales, is this true?
Thanks, Dan

Hello Dan
Because of copyright I can't copy the census for you but can only give you the details.
I have found them in 1861 - RG09/1843/50/9 Perry Gutter, Hopesay.
William Griffiths, Head, M. 30 Ag. Lab., b.Hopesay
Charlotte Griffiths, wife, M.32 b.Bramfield
Lueza Tedstone, daughter, 12 b.Hopesay
Emily Tedstone, daughter 6 b.Hopesay
John Griffiths, son, 9 months b.Hopesay.
This is as it appears on findmypast - it may be different on Ancestry but it looks as though Charlotte was either a widow when she married William, or the 2 girls were born before Charlotte was married.

Delta,
That is most interesting as the family bible mentions the Tedstone name twice.
The first time is says that James Badger, born November 11th, 1827 (hard to read) married Emily Tedstone Griffiths, born September 3rd, 1854, on May 11th, 1886 at Middleton Scriven Nr Bridgnorth Salop.
The second time Tedstone is mentioned is for Robert George Tedstone of Birmingham, died October 4th, 1895, aged 65 years.
I'll have to do some more digging on the Tedstone/Griffiths relationship angle, but it appears that I can say that the individuals you located in the Census' are my family. I'll first try and locate a marriage record for William and Charlotte. That should provide me with whether or not Charlotte was a widow or not.
Awesome stuff. Thank you so much! This is a huge breakthrough for me! Dan

Maurice,
Thanks so much! To both of you for your assistance. In just a few days I've made some serious progress. I've been stuck on this one for few years now.
Again, much appreciated. And I'll probably be back with more questions after I receive these documents. :)

Probably not relevant at all, but I was in Tedstone (Herefordshire) churchyard only this morning and the name Griffiths is all over the gravestones.
