Thanks for your reply.
The only info. I have is from the 1881 census when he was living in Kidwelly nr. Llanelly working as a tin man.
I've no idea when he moved or any of his parents.

The Forest-of-Dean family history site (Parish Records) shows the following baptism on 14 Dec 1845.
Newland Parish
Alfred Oakly [sic]: Occupation Miller
Father: Robert
Mother: Susanna [sic]
Residence: Redbrook [Forest of Dean].
It's quite close to Lydbrook. Would this fit the bill ???

This could be them.
I have found info. elsewhere of a Rowland Oakley married to Susanna ????? (surname unknown).
Could you add to this ?

then you have 1881 (are you sure pl of birth is not Redbrook, rather than Lydbrook?) and 1891 above.

The print I have from 1881 census (from Ancestry.com) definately states Lydbrook, Glos.
Does Lydbrook belong to the district of Redbrook ?
Thanks for the other info., pity we couldn't establish the maiden name of Susannah.

Just looked at the image for 1881 - I think my money would be on Redbrook rather than Lydbrook.
But as it is clearly the same family, and manx-kate found his christening anyway, it does not really matter!
Susanna's maiden name? havent got that far yet!!

Getting one of the children's birth certs will give Susannah's maiden name.
I was hoping to find Alfred's birth reg for you, but have not succeeded - will look for others
