Title: Public houses Stockport Cheshire.
Post by: Vinyl Man on Sunday 07 September 08 09:25 BST (UK)
I am trying to find out some information regarding a pub that my Grandparents used to run in Stockport in approx the middle to late 1950s.It was called the White Bear on Bamford Street, off Hillgate,Stockport. The building is still there i think, but it is now under other use.Anybody any ideas or pointers where to start?
Many Thanks.

The local brewer is Robinsons of The Unicorn Brewery:

They might be able to tell you if The White Bear was a tied house. (I think that the brewery itself was situated on Hillgate so someone there might still remember your pub.)

When I was a teenager in the 60s and living in South Stockport almost every pub seemed to be a Robinsons' house but unfortunately The White Bear was not one of the pubs I frequented.

If you think the building is still there I could take a photo for you the next time I am in Stockport if that is any help. Bamford Street isn't one I have ever used but it is fairly near where I live.

Hello Vinyl Man

I wondered if you had already tried emailing the North Cheshire Family History Society:
