Dear Chatters,
Is there anyone out there who can help me find out any information about the death of Thomas Browne in Boston, USA 15 May 1857. An obituary states that he died after a lingering illness. I am wondering how I would go about finding his death certificate in USA or even hospital records for that time to see if I can get anymore information about him. He was a soldier and had just arrived in USA from Van Diemens Land in Australia where he had served for 27 years. I am assuming he was still in service ( but could be wrong) as he left behind his wife and many young children.
Thanks for your help
Michelle

The info found in the online search can be used to order the record from the MA Archive or from LDS.
I don't see any 1857 death cert matches in Boston, although there's a Thomas Brown in nearby Cambridge.

PS. Have you checked if his wife received a pension? (Just a thought...but I wouldn't know how LOL)

Thanks for the ideas Cheryl. I will take a look at the site now.

The Thomas Brown in Cambridge died 14 April and was less than 2 years old. Alternatively I've searched the indexed entries for the specific area of "Boston" for May 15th and there are only 5 deaths recorded that day...
MIchael Connor Jr age 40
Francis D'Arcy age 54
Thomas Pratt age 77
Waldo W. Thomas age 41
James Duffy age 9
At the moment I've no other suggestions :'(
Best wishes
Jean

Was the obituary from an Australian newspaper? If so maybe Boston was listed because it was the nearest city and a place people in Australia would know rather than the place Thomas actually died.
