Hi Basdfg,
In case we can't find an answer, is there a RootsMagic "hotline" you can e-mail ??

Emailed them.
Dont expect reply to monday though.

How come you have two databases open at the same time?
Perhaps there is a clue there?
You ought to tell us a bit more about what you are doing before we can hazard a guess.
If you do have data in a database then why don't you export it out of there as a gedcom file and import it into Roots Magic?
-
That gedcom got about 500 people and only about 100 i want in my tree.
It is from a distant cousin's Husband.
-
Think i will just do it manually.
Though there is a new version soon so i will just get that.

Hi there,
I just checked the Help section on my copy of RootsMagic and it confirms that you should be able to drag and drop between databases, so it looks like a restriction from a Trial version.
Did you upgrade from a Trial, or is it a genuine version? If you didn't have a trial version, RootsMagic support may supply the answer.
To check your version, click on the Help tab at the top of the screen, then click on "About RootsMagic" on the drop-down menu. This will tell you your Version number and who it is licensed to - in my experience, this normally indicates whether you are using a Trial version.
I'm on Version 3.2.6, which I think is the latest - haven't checked for updates lately.
Good luck!

It could be that because the trial version has this restriction, there is a parameter in there somewhere, saying that the database belongs to the trial version and this is why it can't be moved.
Can you export your database in the trial version to a GEDCOM, import this under a different name into the new version, and then transfer between databases in the new version ??
Or simply delete all the items you don't want in the old database, and then merge that database into the new one ??

So you have two versions of Roots Magic open at the same time?
It's probably causing problems and there ma be a program conflict.
It's probably best to follow Bob's advice and import the GEDCOM and delete the branches you don't want.
