Title: Lawrence's of St.Pancras - 1851
Post by: TessieWessie on Friday 05 September 08 22:47 BST (UK)
Mary Lawrence born September 1851 to a John and Caroline Lawrence, Chapel St, St. Pancras.

I have found Mary on the 1861 living with her father and brother in St.Pancras and on the1871 census where she is a visitor in a house in Rupell Square, Brighton but have been unable to find her on any further census's.  She is a milliner by trade.  I have searched the marriage records for Mary Lawrences after the 1871 (which states she was single at the time) but have had no luck after going through most of the marriages of the Mary Lawrences from 1871 - 1881.  she also had a brother Henry born 1845/6/7 who is equally as elusive.

John Lawrence their father owned a milliner/draper shop in 46, Chapel Street, St. Pancras from 1840 - 1870.  He eventually went to Walthamstow/West Ham to live nearer to his eldest son William who ran a pub there from 1873 - 1891.

It might be worth checking the BDMs for New Zealand and the main arrival ports in Australia for marriages of Mary and Henry Lawrences. I found several of each in New Zealand while seeking a Mary Ann Lawrence who is a relative. The NSW BDM is the best start in Australia as it is the most common disembarkation point.
