Title: BIRKITT - Bridlington Burials
Post by: siriusdogstar on Thursday 04 September 08 08:09 BST (UK)
Is anyone able to look up the location of burials for a family named Birkitt (and any variation) in Bridlington?
I suspect that when one is found, the rest will follow!  For this reason, I haven't stated a period of interest because any information will be gratefully received.
I suspect they may be in the Priory Cemetery.
If this is the case, how do I go about finding a particular grave - the cemetery is enormous.  Is there a sexton's record and, if so, is it available for reference?
I am not a member of any genealogical society in East Yorkshire but do have a FHS readers' card.
Kind regards...... ::)

Hi
The East Yorkshire family history society have produced a booklet of the MI's for Bridling Priory, you can buy it through their web site or you might find it available in the local history department of some libraries, if memory serves then the local history dept of the central libray in Hull hold a copy.

Thanks, I appreciate your trouble - the information is useful in itself.

Since I posted the request I have discovered that the Birkitts were Primitive Methodists.  If you knew them, you'd know why this is funny.

Would you happen to know where their burial ground is to be found?  It has to be in Brid since most of them lived in the Applegarth Lane area near the Bayle Gate.

Many thanks - Sue ;)

Hi,

  There was another burial place on St john street near applegarth lane.
It has been closed for many a good year. It was for the Zion church. the records for this one are kept at Beverley Treasure House Beverley.

Hope this helps Nick1
