All I have is names and d.o.b. and an area they went to, and would like some advice on how I can trace NZ ancestors who emigrated there around 1920.
Anyone got any advice???
Thanks

Welcome to Rootschat Bens
There are some links in the sticky topics at the top of the NZ board .. You could start by looking to see if the name is mentioned in probate records ... otherwise post the name on the NZ board and see if any chatters with access to electoral rolls or bmd discs can help you with a date to order a certificate ...
:) mare
ps... no bmd online... if you do have some idea of an area you could search for cemeteries online...

Hi GT
Kind of new to all this and not sure about how to reply to you personally.?!
Info I have is sketchy really, but the surname of SCRIMIGER is one. Christina b.1895 and John K . They emigrated to somewhere near Aukland about 1923. Often wondered what happened to them. Also RIDING, margaret b. 1883 and Ernest and I think a child called Jessie. They were near Taihape?. Northcote area but they could have moved.
I know it's a bit vague, but anything would be appreciated.
Thank You
Bens
-
I entered Scrimiger into the Auckland area cemeteries ..main ones being Waikumete, Purewa and Hillsborough and Waikaraka with no result.
Northcote is part of Auckland northshore, Taihape is a town near the middle of the North Island.
After a couple of postings you will see a little green scroll under our user names then you can send a personal message. Put the curser on the green scroll or under the user name and you will get the idea in no time ...

Hi Ben
If the marriage I found for Dorothy Marion SCRIMIGER is correct, then you will find her husband here:
http://www.newplymouthnz.com/AtoZOfCouncilServices/CemeteriesAndCrematorium/CemeterySearch.htm
you could try contacting the Cemetery or the Funeral Directors to see who arranged the funeral – might have been a child rather than the wife….
and if you search here for “D Lawrence”, Region “Taranaki”
http://www.whitepages.co.nz/Pages/Home/0,2622,a1281,00.html
there are no listing for “D” and only one for DM – could be worth a letter or phone call.

You will also find the following on the New Plymouth Cemetery search:
Eleanor Margaret GIDDY
Leslie Richard GIDDY
Lewis MacNicol ANDERSON

Hi BENS

Great work Bren

Hi lil
Thanks
;)
working on the marriage date, and if that phone listing is Dorothy, then she would be at LEAST 70, but more likely 80+.
Also looking at the address my first impression was block of flats/group housing/retirement village....
Bren
-
Your on the right track Bren
Couldn't help myself, I spoke to the lady concerned and it is indeed the right person :) She sounds lovely. Quite high numbers for an address. I did look in the phone book for the Retirement Village, it's right next door to her address. It could possibly be connected still, with units having individual postal addresses, maybe?
She'll be happy to hear from you BENS.

way to go lil!! ;D ;D ;D
(I was thinking about doing it too, but it would be a toll call for me....)
Hopefully Bens will be tickled pink when he comes back on.
A living connection!!
Bren
-
Yes , I could imagine you wanted too, get caught up in the excitement of it all :)
No toll rate for me.
Am sure BENS will be thrilled, living relies. always a bonus ;D

Hi Bren and all,
Thank You for all your help. You have solved a 70 year old mystery in a couple of days and put me back in contact with probably the last of my grandfathers cousins.
I am in UK so it was really tricky to find info in NZ. All I had were postcards and letters dated 1920s from Northcote beach, and somewhere called Gardner's sidings and vague stories from now deceased relatives.
Thanks so much!
Ben
-
I am tickled pink :) - you get so used to dead ends and being too late to speak to people.
Well guess I have to think what to write now....
I found Dorothy's birth in UK BMD as liverpool ,1922, making her 85ish which all ties in.
It alsmost seems surreal. Always regret never asking more from my grandad when he was alive. Maybe she can fill in some info for me now on the family mysteries!

Hi Ben

Hi
A big thank you to all of you for the links to Dorothy. She sent a very interesting letter back with some photographs which were of some relativesincluding my g g grandmother I never knew. She seems a really nice person.
She told me that her auntie "Dolly" - Annie Dorothy b. 1881 who was married to William Corrin also emigrated to NZ. He is long gone and she remarried someone called Waterhouse. Of course she will be long gone too I should think. Any ideas??
I assume they all moved out to the same area, at least initially?
