Hi All
I have the marriage of my Gr/Gr/Gr/Grandfather William Fox to Ruth Smith in Bristol 28th Sept.1823 I found it on Family Search. I would like to send for the Cert. but there is no Vol. or Page No. how could I find out where to look for this.
All help would be appreciated.

Hi
There were no marriage certificates prior to Civil Registration - 1.7.1837 - only entries in parish records
-
No Certs before the start of Civil Regn Sept Q, 1837 !
Hopefully you can obtain a copy of the Register Page ?

Hi CaroleW and Newfster
Thanks very much for your quick reply.
I guess it's asking the church if they could give me the nessesary answers I require. Once again thanks. Bowerboy.

Hi
The records won't be at the church - they will be at whichever PRO covers the Bristol area

Bowerboy,
The marriage info. you found was allegedly extracted from the records of St Sephen (that should be St Stephen) but the surprising thing is that the Batch number M019972 has no Source Call number. Searching the batch number with no names in the name search fields will give all the entries in the batch :)
Source Call numbers identify the LDS film from which the info. was extracted and are essential if one wishes to check church records via LDS films. The Batch seems to cover the years 174? to 183?
However, the LDS has filmed but appear not to have extracted the info. from Film number 1595986 showing the Bishop's transcripts of St Stephen's registers for the years 1671 to 1864. You could check that film if you wish to verify what you've found but it's possible the film could have been the one from which the batch was extracted but I doubt it in view of no "twin".
Unlike many M batches which have corresponding C batch identifiers giving baptisms/christenings, the one you found appears not to have a C batch "twin". Are the LDS trying to make our research more difficult?
Thanks for finding this batch number, I'll add it to my list.
Regards
Chas

Bowerboy,
If you go to the LDS site and check the Library Catalogue for Bristol GLS then select "church records" (not "Church records - Indexes") use the Windows find facility to look for Stephen. Search around and find film notes and you'll be told where the original document is and its Bristol record office reference.

Bowerboy,
Apparently the records you require are held at Bristol Records Office http://www.bristol.gov.uk/ccm/navigation/leisure-and-culture/records-and-archives/;jsessionid=BB21B0E5063DBB7E266AE71B76047F81.tcwwwaplaws1
The marriage details are on Register Page 91, Number 273 (St Stephen)

I am hoping to go to the Bristol Records Office shortly to see if I can find out anything there. If I find anything I will let you know.
My line stems from my Gran my Dads mother who was Ellen Fox B.1873 Could you let me know where your line stems from Please because it's obvious we are related.
