Title: Polmont burials pre 1855
Post by: Augusto on Wednesday 03 September 08 06:04 BST (UK)
Hi,
I'm searching for the burial of a Robert Mc Nie or McNee whom died abt.1833 in Polmont. He was married to Isabella Nimmo  whom was the daughter of Alexander Nimmo of Muiravonside.
I was wondering if anybody who has access to the Polmont or Muiravonside churchyard burials could check for me ?
Kind regards,
                     Augusto,
                                   Victoria,Australia.

Hello Augusto,

Unfortunately there are no McNee/McNie MI's in either Polmont or Muiravonside Churchyards listed in the East Stirlingshire Book. This doesn't mean he isn't buried there, just that there's no stone.

Umpteen Nimmos though!

Anne

Thanks for looking Anne,
Could you tell me if one of the Nimmos was Mary Nimmo wife of Alexander Nimmo whom died 14 Nov,1858 ?
Mary's maiden name was Brown.
Again thanks for such a quick reply.
Kind regards,
                    Augusto.

MMMmmmm . . . . .

No matches for that couple.

In Polmont:
1825  James Thomson & Mary Nimmo (1825 could mean anything - date they purchased the plot/lair, death of a child, death of one of the couple etc.)

In Muiravonside:
G N      M D    (Usually stands for initials of husband and wife)
1711 (1711 could mean anything - date they purchased the plot/lair, death of a child, death of one of the couple etc.)
Alexander Nimmo & Christian Bwchan (Bwchan is probably Buchan)
George Nimmo & Mary Dowgal and their children (Dowgal is probably Dougall)

I hope the above makes sense!  ;D

Meant to say -

If Mary was the first person to be buried in a particular lair, and there was a stone, the chances are that the stone wouldn't have been included in the survey as these were mostly pre-1855. There are plenty of post-1855 people listed, but I think the criteria for inclusion must have been that the first name, or date on the stone must have been pre-1855. Follow me?

Thanks again Anne,
I know from my family tree that Alexander b.1697 married Christian Buchan and married 1724. (source Opr.) Not sure of death dates?
George b.1732 (his son)married Mary Dougal 1766.
John b.1737 (another son) from whom I descend, married Isobel Johnston 1767
Alexander b.1771 (son of John)d.1858 and from his death extract says buried in Muiravonside churhyard.spouse of Mary Brown.
Most likely G N (is George Nimmo) & M D (is Mary Dougal).
Any mention of a J N & I C as they were the original parents of Alexander(top.)
that is John Nimmo & Isobel Cullen ?

Sorry, no stones matching, in fact none at all having 'N' as the surname in Muiravonside.

One in Polmont has WN  HS and on the reverse side has 1846   Henry Wilson, wife Jean Hogg & Children    1766

I have photos of the Alexander Nimmo & Christian Buchan stone, albeit not very good ones - Muiravonside Churchyard is a nightmare to photograph. I tried during summer and the grass/trees/overgrowth made it difficult then during the winter, the light just isn't good enough to capture the details. Your more than welcome to copies of the photographs of this stone, send me your personal e-mail via PM and I'll send them through.

Hi there,

I am currently researching the Nimmo family tree of Muiravonside, don;t have alot of info at the moment, however I do have the photos that Anne mentioned aswell.  The photos I have were taken about two weeks ago - there are two Nimmo stones which have recently been restored.

If you want to PM me with your e-mail I will send them along with the tree information I have.

I am also in contact with someone related to this branch who has sent me a copy extract of Robert and Isabels marriage certificate and their daughter Marys birth extract.

Don't know if you have these or not - but I will send them to you if you don't.

This thread is a few years old now but here is the stone in question from Muiravonside parish churchyard. It's a beautiful example of the mason's craft and there are many more like it in this tiny burial ground.
I am researching the Binnie family from there and have pictures of most of the Binnie stones, from both the churchyard and the cemetery next to it.

Hi again,

My late mother in law (as afore mentioned) is a descendent of this family.  i am led to believe that there alot of family history already around for the Nimmo family.

This memorial was cleaned a year ago by a local stonemason on behalf of a Mr Nimmo.  There was another memorial cleaned at the same time, however is became blackened instead of turning out like this one.
