Title: Bradbury family
Post by: debbiclapham on Tuesday 02 September 08 16:16 BST (UK)
Hello,

I am looking for any information about William Bradbury, born approx 1835, Kingston area. Married / lived with Bessie Dunn (b1841 Padstow) in Croydon in 1901. Had sons James & Thomas, Bessie had children from previous marriage to Henry Brown. Unsure if Williams birth was ever registered.

Many thanks

Civil Regn started in 1837 ....

so do you want him sought out in the early censuses, so you can establish his parents names and any siblings ?

 :)

No sign in 1841 Kingston area, nor more broadly in Surrey - apart from a chap born 1826, Great Bookham.

Hi Debbie

Have you managed to follow him back through all the censuses?

Or is that the info you need?

We're good at that  ;D 8)

Yes ideally, I've hit a wall not knowing his parents. He is a bit of a mystery in general, as earlier mentioned I don't think his birth was registered and neither do I believe he actually married Bessie however she took his name!! So yes you could call tham an "interesting family"!!!. It is info on his parents I need to move forward.

Doesn't necessarily mean she was a widow.  I notice her son James is a bricklayer. (Harriet is living with James and family in 1901)

I only said Hmmmmmmmmm - not QED !   ;)

so we need 1881 location of the older guy's 'wife'  Betsey .........

There's a christening of Sarah Pepall 1804 at Petersfield, but no marriages in Hampshire or anywhere else.

Sarah's parents are Thomas and Elizabeth. A Mary (1809) and a Maria (1812)  Pepall were baptised at Kingston, daughters of Thomas and Elizabeth.

Well done Newfster..... ;)

My  8) what a lot of kids.......should that be John Thomas perhaps  :P

Seriously though, either the enumerator made a mistake and copied his name down wrongly or he is really Thomas and changed it to William to make a new life?

Have to get tea now so don't have time to find Ann and the kdis in 1891- sorry!

Thomas has died by 1901 ..... Ann still around.

Yes, good point Carol.

wonder if the IGI, despite gap will show a Bradbury family having kids in that period ?
Title: Re: Bradbury family
Post by: Necromancer on Tuesday 02 September 08 18:14 BST (UK)
Not getting any more from the IGI to help prove if Thomas and William were brothers ... tracked Thomas back to 1861 newly married in Heston (Hounslow area), so I'd suggest getting his marriage Cert to establish his fathers name and see if that helps at all on the 1851 and 1861 census ...

Hope we havent frightened you off with the ups and downs of this search !

Blimey! You have all been busy! Thank you so much. It's all rather confusing. I know Betsey was married before to Henry Brown, neither do we don't think William was ever registered when he was born hence no birth entry anywhere and I suppose they wouldn't be able to marry if he had no birth certificate. I'm hoping one day to tie in with any decendents of their children - It's just finding them!!!!!!!

Debbi hi,  I need to have a good read of this thread to try to understand the full story but, in the meantime have a look at

http://www.markpepall.plus.com/p924.htm

one William Presbrey Bradbury (1842-1890), son of my husbands 3rd great grand aunt Sarah Pepall (1804-1888)

Let me know if you find anything that does not tie in with what you know about your William and I'll get back to you when I have followed this thread from the beginning.

Chris
